The United States will be sending an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday.
Trump, in a Truth Social post, cited his relationship with Poland’s conservative nationalist president, Karol Nawrocki, as the reason behind his decision to send additional troops.
The announcement comes two days after U.S. Vice President JD Vance told reporters a U.S. troop deployment to Poland had been delayed.

Vance is mirroring whatever Trump’s position is. On any given day. And it can change hour to hour.
48 hours ago is an eternity when Trump is chasing squirrels on Truth Social.
Considering Nawrocki won a year ago (June 1st 2025), this announcement is a little weird. Surely Trump was in on the decision to cancel the deployment of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division that was announced last week?
Herr Tusk won’t like Trump’s annoucement.
The halt to the rotation caused a big uproar in Poland and was being used by Civic Platform to attack the conservative President Nawrocki, who has counted a lot on his relationship with Trump to weigh in his favor.
The Poles are also buying billions of dollars in US weaponry, in addition to building their own and other items like tanks and fighters under license from SK.
Putin is amping up the rhetoric and provocations against Europe now that the Ukrainians are stopping Russian advances. There's real fear here that he will attack one or more of the Baltics or the Suwalki Gap to pressure Europe to abandon Ukraine.
Vance is a waste product. Empty suit. Fire him. No legislation, no recission packages for anyone to get stuff done.

Vance is a helluva upgrade on Pence but he is not a heavyweight. Rubio has been a real surprise. IMO he would be a great candidate to follow Trump. Vance could get some seasoning and a chance to show his talents in the next administration cabinet.
