Judge in Mangione case rules backpack search at McDonald's was unlawful, disallows cell phone, passport, wallet, bullet magazine, and more from evidence

Is it just me, or does it feel like we're setting up to let this guy go free?

The latest update in the Luigi Mangione case is a pretty discouraging one. Officers apparently did not follow protocol when they searched Luigi's backpack at the McDonald's where he was arrested. So nothing from the backpack can be admitted as evidence.

BREAKING: Judge Carro just ruled the McDonald's backpack search ILLEGAL in the Luigi Mangione case: "There wasn't a search warrant at that time."

"So it's the bullet magazine his cell phone, his passport, his wallet, and a computer chip will not be allowed into evidence."

The gun itself is still catalogued as evidence, but everything else in the bag has to be tossed because they looked through it while it was on a table just out of Mangione's reach. Apparently the fact that they had probable cause to believe he matched the profile of an assassin during a nationwide manhunt was not sufficient enough justification for a basic search.

This, as pointed out in the Fox report, does not align with the federal court's ruling that everything in the backpack was admissible as evidence.

Luigi's defense council and fans see this as a loss, however, since they want all the evidence thrown out.

Luigi Mangione Post-Court Video: A jury will see the alleged ghost gun, silencer and red notebook. Although a mixed ruling, I’m sure the defense is disappointed these pieces of evidence are admissible. @LAmag pic.twitter.com/ykLHQXnCs5— Lauren Conlin (@conlin_lauren) May 18, 2026

Again, this is the state trial in New York.

Mind you, this is the state prosecution. Mangione also faces an active federal prosecution in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) regardless of what happens in this case. https://t.co/KXGxHj6c1H— AwakenedOutlaw⚒️ (@AwakenedOutlaw) May 18, 2026

The feds seem to have a much stronger case against Luigi, and appear much more interested in putting him behind bars.

Of course he’ll be exonerated. He’s a “hero” to the left and a lot of women, which include a lot of judges.

Key statement:

“Again, this is the state trial in New York.”

I predict he won’t fair so well in the federal trial.

Absolutely.

There are political forces in this country (and this world) whose goal it is to create leftist stagnation, chaos, and confusion - particularly in economics, law/justice and within government. They benefit from it.

These forces aren't just domestic. They are international/globalist in their organization.

So, you have a known or suspected killer. How is going thru his bag any different than frisking him for weapons when he is being detained? So, if he had a loaded gun in there, it would have been ok for him to access it and shoot someone.

That is the State Case I heard, not the Federal Case. I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Because the backpack was not under his control, it was on a table, not accessible to him. So the cops needed a warrant, or… He needed to be placed under arrest. At that point, everything can be searched incident to arrest. But the minute they Stopped to talk to him, they had every right to completely pat him down. But unfortunately, that does not include searching his bag unless it’s on his person.

Cops got amped up because they were after a terrorist, and they forgot a few basic things. But part of me thinks this is an exercise in futility. They could show the video, they could have the gun and all the contents of the backpack, and I think we’re headed for an O.J. Simpson verdict. Where some women feel bad for him. Apparently he gets all kinds of romantic fan mail. It’s deranged.

Take a good look and/or zoom the photo of that attorney next to this clown freak-— no adult male has filed fingernails that long especially the pinkie nail. Cocaine nail on the “attorney”... and/or he is a trans cross dresser like his client rich boy.

I believe the judge was wrong. There are times when a search warrant is not required and I think the backpack search meant those conditions. I don’t recall the legal reasoning right off hand but from what I can recall it has to do with how immediate a threat is.
