Netanyahu 'blunder' threatens US-backed Israel-UAE alliance at critical moment with Iran: analyst

The U.S.-brokered alliance designed to counter Iran in the Middle East is showing signs of strain amid tensions between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, an analyst says, as the possibility of a broader conflict with Tehran intensified Sunday.

The friction first surfaced May 13 after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said he held a "historic breakthrough" meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a "secret visit" to Al Ain near the Oman border.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a swift denial following the announcement.

Sachs, a senior fellow at the institute, said Netanyahu’s UAE meeting claim "seems like a diplomatic blunder because it embarrasses the UAE."

"This was an odd move to make since the UAE has been a close partner of Israel, even during this war," Sachs said.

"Either Netanyahu didn't think, or he was thinking about something else — domestic politics. It would not be the first time he did that."

Diplomatic “he said/she said” theater like this happens constantly in the Middle East. Sometimes it’s optics for the Arab street, sometimes it’s Netanyahu scoring points at home, sometimes it’s both. It is not evidence the sky is falling on the anti-Iran front. If the UAE really wanted to ditch Israel, they wouldn’t be quietly coordinating with them while publicly pretending the meeting never happened — they’d just walk away. They haven’t.

This post is the geopolitical version of someone breathlessly tweeting “BREAKING: minor parking dispute between two neighbors who still carpool to work” and then declaring their entire block is in civil war. It’s not important. It’s not even interesting. It’s just another day in the world’s most drama-filled neighborhood, spun into prophecy by people who really, really want the anti-Iran coalition to fracture so their preferred narrative can win.

Much ado about nothing. Of course it’s true, but the UAE had to deny it to appease the “Arab street” (low IQ inbred savages prone to violence), and Netanyahu could not resist trumpeting it because he is facing an domestic election threat.

Makes no difference because Trump sounds like he’s gotten completely fed up with the IRGC and the psychomullahs.

This analysis does not refer to Jeffrey Sachs, the economist often critical of Netanyahu.

Jeffrey Sachs has said that the United States is “complicit in Israeli genocide” and could halt the conflict by freezing US military aid billions to Israel.

In a video clip shared by Donald Trump, Jeffrey Sachs criticized Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “obsessive” efforts to drag the United States into a war with Iran by using the same-old abhorrent pro-Israel lobbying techniques.

Natan Sachs is a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute
and formerly a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

He specializes in Israeli foreign policy, domestic politics, and US foreign policy.

Sachs’ “Blunder” analysis reported on misleading accounts of meetings
between UAE officials, being touted by Netanyahu as a political ploy.

Sachs told Fox News Digital that Netanyahu publicly claiming such meetings is a huge “diplomatic blunder” because it embarrasses the UAE, (and makes Netanyahu look like a pathological liar).

Sachs guessed that Israel was likely working heavily
to mend its flagging PR following the Netanyahu blunder.

Look - you’ve got to write about something - and sure the UAE is going to deny this to keep their people happy - does any rational person think for one second this is actually going to derail talks between Israel and the UAE.

Get a grip.

My perception is this is the challenge not fully perceived by the President. He is working to have Israel represent their own interests and ‘cut the cord’ with US. The mis-step is assuming the Arab world would recognize Israel apart from a deal with the US. Sadat got close and he was assassinated. It is skin to shaming Islam to recognize Israel on the world stage much less talk directly with them.

No, you miss the point

America, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are all working together to destroy Iran

Yhe agreement is the Abraham Accord that includes several other as well.

Abraham Accords are heavily tied to US assurances in many areas. As expected, the populations of those nations have been mostly opposed to their nations signing on.
It is interesting to me the Arab leadership has been trying to delay infrastructure destruction by the US military.
What the US and Israel have done to Iran and their proxies has significant impact on the truth that Islam presents to their subjects.
Allowing Shia Islam destruction/overthrow may be more of a problem for Islam than the IRGC.

Not sure why this is a blunder. The UAE signed on to the Abraham accords and recognized Israel. Why should the UAE have to deny meetings with a country they made peace with and share a common enemy at the moment? Is it because it was “near Oman?” and thus implies Oman was involved?
