Authorities are investigating after a fiery explosion Friday at a lumber mill in Searsmont, Maine.

Officials have not yet released the number of injuries or fatalities.

Camden Fire & Rescue confirmed it has a crew providing assistance.

"Our thoughts are with the injured, medical professionals providing care and first responders working to control the situation," the department wrote in a statement on Facebook. "We anticipate having personnel committed to helping for several days."

Ben Hamel, the mill's purchasing manager, told the Bangor Daily News that the fire started in an area where wood shavings are packaged. The fire then spread to a nearby dust silo, which exploded.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

I hear that there are at least 10 people who are severely injured, including fire fighters. This is a rural area, and family mill (Robbins Lumber), so these are probably volunteer fire fighters. Say a prayer for all involved.

This is a sawmill that has been open for over a hundred years.
It is a fifth generation privately owned mill by the Robbins family.
My company has been buying Eastern White Pine boards from them for over forty years.
There was an explosion about 10 am.
I am not exactly sure what part of the mill it was in.
It seems like it was contained to one building.
Both employees and fireman were injured.
Some med flighted out.
Searsmont is mid coast Maine.
Downeast from Portland but south of Bangor.

The only thing i can think of is it was in the dimension plant.

Looks like bundles of cut stock on fire but the dang thing really let loose. Cant tell.

I dont know if they had a dimension operation there or not.

If you want quality lumber you buy it from Robbins!

It was a sawdust packaging area that spread to a silo of saw dust.

No, it was a board mill.
I read they had a shavings bagging/bailing operation

That a fire started in that and spread to a siloh.
Maybe causing a dust explosion.
