New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, whose article accusing Israel of using dogs and carrots to rape Palestinian prisoners is being denounced by the Israeli foreign ministry as "Hamas propaganda," "fabricated," and a "baseless blood libel," had a father who served on the Nazi side during World War II. In Kristof’s 2024 memoir, Chasing Hope, he writes, "When I was growing up and other kids talked about their dads heroically battling the Nazis, I kept quiet. I didn't want to admit that my father had actually fought for a year on the same side of the Nazis."
Kristof’s father also wrote a letter to the editor of the Times in 1989 defending Paul Touvier, the intelligence chief of a pro-Nazi militia in Vichy France who was convicted of killing seven Jewish hostages. Kristof’s father wrote that in World War II, "in so many cases it was sometimes difficult indeed to draw a sharp line between friend and enemy, patriot and traitor, moral and immoral acts. To do good, you often had to do evil too. Time and again, people had to quantify their ethics: I am permitted to be this much immoral to achieve that much good; kill so many to save that many. And once the war ended, it was a question to what extent personal commitments or obligations taken under one set of circumstances were still binding under totally different circumstances, moral and political."
The disclosure that Kristof’s father served in the Romanian military on the Nazi side may help to explain why Kristof would be so eager to demonize Israel...."
Kristof himself acknowledges in his memoir that a "tortuous family history helped turn me into the kind of reporter I became..."

I’m not in favor of tagging people with the sins of their parents. Here, Kristof is odious enough on his own.
And George said he has no feelings of guilt about it whatsoever and that if he didn’t do it someone else would have.
Worked with, benefited from. He was a 14-year-old private contractor, who shook down the poor souls heading into the cattle cars, and pocketed most of the money, though doubtless bribing a few low-level officials as a cost of doing business.
Imagine what that would do to your psyche. He must be a mess in there. Schwartz wakes up every day, trying to think up ways to destroy the United States
The apple, in this case (Kristof), apparently does not fall far from the tree.
Most of American Mediots were on the side of the National Socialists in Germany.
What did George do? As a 12 year old?
I don’t think it’s necessary to blame Kristoff’s father: he seems to have achieved the status of a jackass Leftist Jew-hater all by himself.
Scripture says in one place “children will not be punished for the sins of their fathers,” and in another place, “I visit the sins of the fathers on their children”. The sages of the Talmud and Midrash explain the seeming contradiction: When they take in hand the evil practices of their fathers, they are punished for their fathers’ sins as well. When they do not take up their fathers’ sins, they will not be punished for those paternal sins.
Sure, fake story but it doesn't help that Israel does not allow the International Red Cross to visit prisoners.
Since 7 October 2023, the ICRC has not been able to visit any Palestinian detainees in Israeli places of detention. The ICRC has repeatedly called to be notified of and allowed to visit Palestinians in Israeli detention and continues its discussion with relevant authorities to work to regain access.
The ICRC has been pretty odious for the past two and a half years of war. It may have something to do with this. Don’t know the details.
(Interview with Steve Kroft)...
Interesting. Thank you!
He was 14. Same as any “Slicky Boy” of that age in Saigon did during that war. He hustled and dealed, threatening to dime out the Jews boarding the cattle cars over the money, gold and other valuables sewn into their jackets, should they fail to give him some of their goods. They gave him, then boarded the trains from Budapest to Auschwitz, and other points east.
Let me see, Israel is primarily Jewish and the Palestinians are Muslims so why do you think they should let a Christian organization into the match?
...........Kristof graduated from Yamhill Carlton High School, where he was student body president and school newspaper editor. He attended Harvard College, where he was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate. At Harvard, he studied government, interned at Portland’s The Oregonian, and worked on The Harvard Crimson newspaper......
After Harvard, he studied law at Magdalen College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. He earned his law degree with first-class honors and won an academic prize (awarded as an earned Bachelor of Arts at Oxford, and promoted per tradition to a Master of Arts).....
With that background, he should have done better than being a hack journalist! Supreme Court? President?
Let me see, Israel is primarily Jewish and the Palestinians are Muslims so why do you think they should let a Christian organization into the match?
Geneva Conventions
The Geneva Conventions, specifically the Third and Fourth Conventions of 1949, grant the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) the legal right to visit prisoners of war (POWs) and civilian internees during international armed conflicts. These visits aim to ensure humane treatment, monitor conditions, and facilitate communication with families
