After weeks of negotiations, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has failed to form a government... King Frederik X has now asked Liberal Party leader Troels Lund Poulsen to lead talks...
Under the King's mandate, Poulsen is now expected to explore the formation of a government that excludes both the Social Democrats and the Moderates, signalling a major shift to the right in Denmark's political landscape.
The move came after weeks of difficult coalition talks following Denmark's fragmented March snap election, which saw 12 parties enter parliament, with only three winning more than 10% of the vote.
Although Frederiksen's Social Democrats recorded their weakest election result since 1903, winning just 21.9% of the vote, the party initially remained in a position to lead talks to form the next government as it still grabbed the highest votes.
The talks ultimately broke down as Frederiksen was not able to align the interests of leftist and moderate parties. A decisive turning point reportedly came when Lars Løkke Rasmussen, leader of the centrist Moderates, withdrew from negotiations and backed Poulsen instead...
Frederiksen had suffered a staggering blow in municipal elections in November 2025, when her party -- traditionally Denmark's biggest -- came in second and lost nearly half of the municipalities it controlled, including the capital Copenhagen.
But her popularity surged in early 2026 when she stood up to US President Donald Trump over his threats to annex Greenland. Frederiksen seized on the wave of popularity to call snap elections in late February... [and how'd that "tailwind" work out for her?]
Her failure to form a coalition marks yet another setback for Social Democracy in Europe, which has been experiencing a prolonged decline, most recently reflected in heavy losses in regional and local elections in France and Germany.

At the EU level, Frederiksen has spearheaded the push for more deportations, pushed for the establishment of 'return-hubs' outside the EU, and led a call to rein in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) alongside her ally Giorgia Meloni, Italy's populist and right-wing prime minister.
World politics is being shaped by Bad, Bad, Orange Man!😊👍
Denmark needs to be dismantled.
So....meaning Denmark trending more liberal and toward EU?
“Under the King’s mandate, Poulsen is now expected to explore the formation of a government that excludes both the Social Democrats and the Moderates, signalling a major shift to the right in Denmark’s political landscape.”
Nope. More along the lines of an old fake captions book I have somewhere (from the days of “Truly Tasteless Jokes”, same format — there was a picture of Marge Thatcher speaking, and her fake words were, “in Britain we have the Labour Party, which you would call the Socialist Party, and we have the Conservative Party, which you would call the Socialist Party.” The earlier article that I clipped and linked up top shows that they’re unlikely to knuckle under to the Brussels open-borders BS. Also I saw Cronos had posted about some back-channel talks between the Trump administration and, uh, somebody, regarding Greenland.
You need 85 seats to form a majority coalition. Neither the left-of-center nor the right-of-center parties have a majority. The center-to-center-right Moderates hold the balance of power. It is informative that the Moderates couldn’t be persuaded to join into a ruling coalition with the left-of-center parties.
POSSIBLE center-to-populist-right coalition:
Venstre (described as “Liberals” in the referenced article) 18 seats;
Peoples (populist-right) 16;
Liberal Alliance 15;
Moderates (center to center-right) 14;
Conservatives 13;
Democrats (populist-right) 10;
Union Party of the Faroe Islands 1;
TOTAL SEATS 87
To be sure, pulling these diverse parties together will be a challenge.
Other than the 1-seat, far-right Citizens Party slipping below the 2 percent threshold for leveling seats, there has been little change in the polls since the election.
more murdering of Danish civilians by Muslim savages supported by these parasite politicians and stupid people
In Europe, liberal means pro free enterprise and pro liberty and pro smaller government. After the 1932 election liberal mean FDR’s anti free enterprise, anti liberty, and pro big (very big) government.
Trump has defeated the smug bitch. Greenland will soon be ours.
“Denmark needs to be dismantled.”
???
It’s a really really old country - well over a millennium old. And tiny. what do you want to dismantle it to?
That use of “liberals” in the article flagged me that they were trying to dress up the defeat; the other clue was the use of “far-right” to describe other probable coalition members.
“...more murdering of Danish civilians by Muslim savages...”
Not before a Greenland deal.
Yup, although I'm not sure the actual goal is annexation of Greenland, I think that's the bridge-too-far position i.e. a negotiating strategy. But, like the rest of the TDS politicians -- worldwide, on and off FR -- they're defeating themselves.
I think the article also mentions populism, which is a pejorative term for the fullest flower of democracy, unlike parliamentary systems (and DNC ballot fraud engineered regimes) which often resist popular changes but regardless are nearly always vehicles for parties that can't/don't win a majority.
Puerto Rico.
Yep. And that’s the least of it. Weirdly.
