The World War II slogan (that’s a two, not an eleven, Ilhan) “loose lips sink ships” reminded Americans that careless talk could provide our enemies with vital intelligence. Here we are, nearly a century later, and the principle still applies. Recent events involving Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Defense secretary Pete Hegseth illustrate how public disclosures about military capabilities can still compromise our national security.
Senator Kelly appeared Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation. Drawing from a classified Pentagon briefing on U.S. weapons stockpiles that were depleted during operations against Iran, Senator Kelly detailed the strains on specific munitions: Tomahawk missiles, ATACMS, SM-3s, THAAD rounds, and Patriot interceptors. He said the drawdown on these weapons was “shocking” and warned that replenishing them could take years, potentially weakening America’s position in a hypothetical conflict with China. Host Margaret Brennan then amplified the remarks on X, which highlighted their sensitivity.
Hegseth wasted no time responding. He announced a Pentagon legal review into whether Kelly had violated his oath by disclosing classified information. Hegseth posted, “Captain Mark Kelly Strikes again. Now he’s blabbing on TV (falsely & dumbly) about a CLASSIFIED Pentagon briefing.” This wasn’t Kelly’s first controversy; he had previously faced scrutiny over leaking a classified inspector general report.
The next day, Senator Kelly attempted to control the damage, claiming that his statements referenced a prior public hearing where Hegseth had discussed the replenishment timelines. There were, however, discrepancies. Kelly named specific weapons systems and tied their depletion directly to current operations in ways the public record did not. He also addressed scenarios involving China that could interest our adversaries. His response sidestepped the classified briefing reference and shifted the focus to a criticism of the Trump administration.

Is Senator Kelly actually daring the Pentagon and the Department of Justice to carry out an investigation of a sitting U.S. senator, retired astronaut, and naval officer? If the investigations find culpability, will charges follow? Will he then claim he’s being unjustly persecuted?
I’m certain Kelly sits in on the weekly Obama/Soros wargaming strategy session zoom calls.
This kind and this ilk all know who and what it is they serve.
Sad to say but as the Democratic Party has moved to the far left and has embraced its hate America agenda, no Democrat can be trusted in any matter of importance be it in the realm of public policy or private dealings.
The Senate needs to do something about that treasonous bass turd, Kelly. He’s real commie scum. A real POS.
Tom Clancy wrote of a situation in which a known asshole was fed bad information in order to confirm that he was a malicious leaker.
Now that the Mayor of Arcadia has been busted as a Chinese spy, Kelly probably feels like he has to pick up the slack.
Voters from California have elected two of the biggest POS in the Government as Arizona’s “senators.” Arizonians need to try to fix this dangerous mistake and get rid of those two bass turds.
Clancy patterned the character after Ted Kennedy’s Chief of Staff.
Shows he’s not on the side of the US or just completely out of his mind
Thunder can remove Kelly from any committee assignments.
No telling with these guys. If they concocted the whole russian collusion crap and the urkaine phone call BS...their crazy ideas won’t surprise me. THey have the media on their side making it all possible.
...good point....and I thought it was now the War Department, the word “Defense” having been cast into the dustbin of history....jus’ sayin’ .......
