The Democrats are pushing this clip all over social media. It has been picked up by some anti-Trump news sources, like the Telegraph, which headlined: “‘I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation,’ says Trump.” Here it is:
Americans' financial situation:
—Gas prices have spiked 44% since Trump took office
—Foreclosures are at a 6-year high
—Most layoffs since the pandemic
—Inflation is outpacing wages
—70% of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy https://t.co/DPZehkltWw— Democrats (@TheDemocrats) May 12, 2026

The edited video you see at the Democrat X page
Of course, any time the Democrats give you a sentence fragment, you know they are lying. This is the full exchange Trump had with a journalist:
Trump on Iran War:
Reporter: What extent are Americans’ financial situation motivating you to make a deal?
Trump: Not even a little bit. I don't think about Americans’ financial situation pic.twitter.com/TJ94pGpqD8— Acyn (@Acyn) May 12, 2026
Trump's unedited exchange with the reporter.
Obviously, it would be inappropriate, not to say stupid, for a president to say publicly that he is feeling pressure on the home front when he is conducting a negotiation with an enemy power. But the Democrats are both out of ammo and unmoored from reality, so there is no depth to which they will not sink.

Democrats lie about themselves - they lie about us ... it’s who they are.
I don’t have a problem with what he said. I have a problem with how the Democrats edit it.
It sometimes feels like it was a mistake to let the Teacher’s Union teach our children to hate America and, if White and male, to hate themselves.
Who could have seen that coming?
The Dems do lie (constantly), but the economy is not getting better right now, and the American people feel it. The sooner Trump finishes with Iran, the sooner we can get gas prices coming down.
Dems totally out of context. They’re looking for anything to exploit.
They’re still burning up over the campaign ad he successfully used against Harris (She’s for they/them. Trump is for You)
Exactly.
When the only thing the Democrats have is “Hate Trump”, this is to be expected.
What are their FR nicks?
If a nuclear-armed IRGC is an existential threat, then a temporary spike in the price of gasoline is not a big issue by comparison.
This is what Gemini AI says in response to "do we currently have the most layoffs since the pandemic?"
According to reports from Challenger, Gray & Christmas: 2026 Trend: While April 2026 saw a 38% rise in monthly layoffs, the year-to-date total through April is down by about 50% compared to the same period in 2025, according to a May 2026 WATE-TV report. Yes, based on data available as of early 2026, we are experiencing the highest level of layoffs since the initial 2020 pandemic lockdowns.
2025 Totals: Employers announced over 1.1 million job cuts in 2025, which was a 58% increase over 2024 and the highest annual total since 2020.
So "most layoffs since the pandemic" is increasingly out of date. I thought that didn't sound right because the Dept. of Labor has been reporting low first time unemployment claims recently.
