US Senator Rand Paul has said he introduced a constitutional amendment aimed at ending automatic birthright citizenship for children born in the US to undocumented immigrants.
"I introduced a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship," Paul said on X on Monday.
"The 14th Amendment was never meant to reward illegal entry."
The Kentucky lawmaker drew a distinction between legal and illegal immigration, arguing that lawful immigration historically strengthened the US, while illegal immigration is being used to obtain citizenship benefits.
"Legal immigration built this country. Illegal immigration is being used to game the system. Only children of legal residents should receive automatic citizenship," Paul said.

Go Rand 🥳
not even a snowballs chance. Good on him though.
There is no right to be born in America if you are living in a foreign country. All countries have hospitals or doctors without borders or midwives to deliver babies. They don’t have to be born in America. Birthright citizenship is something that only pigfaced Democrats advocate for and freeloading, socialist maggots engage in.
Is he trying to tell SCOTUS he believes the 14th does currently supports birthright citizenship?
If not, why doesn’t he wait for the decision instead of giving SCOTUS a fig leaf to rule against the administration?
This is tantamount to Congress saying the VP has no Constitutional right to question states electors in a Presidental election, then passes a law that says just that. If unconstitutional, then no law is needed.
BS by not waiting for the SC decision he is sending the message to the court that they should rule against us.
Yes. He’s trying to screw up the scotus decision.
At best, he’s showboating.
"The 14th Amendment was never meant to reward illegal entry."
So then a constitutional amendment isn't needed nor is it even the easiest option.
Enough with the posing.
This poster is a twat from the shthole we commonly refer to as the uk.
All it’s posts either suck rand pauls ass or are anti American anti Trump.
Highly recommend not responding to anything this dick posts.
Totally pointless and Rand knows this.
Even if they had the votes, it needs to be ratified by 3/4 of states.
This 2nd part was what killed the ERA.

Exactly right.
This is nice in theory, but is a distraction from more realistic action.
It would be better to introduce legislation clarifying that birthright citizenship is narrowly defined as ppl legally under the jurisdiction of the US. Current supreme court would likely uphold that.
Actually we discussed this back in April, as the Supreme Court approaches a decision Rand Paul takes Jeb Bush’s position that it is a constitutional right.
But I really appreciate the move by Senator Rand. It is the right thing to do. We need politicians who will keep pointing us in the right direction.
Ban dual citizenship for US citizens also.
Which R.Paul would likely vote against if it ever come to that.
Rand Paul is the Senate’s version of James Trafficant. (Empty cans making noise)
This should have been done in February 2025 when public opinion overwhelmingly supported this.
“Ban dual citizenship for US citizens also.’
I appreciate the sentiment, but it gives foreign countries the ability to play games with US citizens’ citizenship.
For example, Imperial Japan considered Japanese Americans, who had never been to Japan, and who were born here, citizens of Japan and subjects of the Emperor, whether they claimed Japanese citizenship or not.
The same is true of England that would Shanghai US sailors back in the day.
No act of some foreign power should have impact on a US citizen’s status.
Better, first, to see if SCOTUS buys Executive Order.
Plan B would be an act of Congress. If plan A doesn’t work, go to plan B.
Only if Supreme Court explicitly says the 14th Amendment grants birthright citizenship, go to plan C, the Constitutional Amendment.
As plan C would require 2/3rd of each House of Congress and 3/4ths of the states, plan C sounds unrealistic.
Perhaps plan D, secession, should be considered. This plan also sounds unrealistic.
Better hope that one of plan A (what we are doing now) and plan B work.
