Sir Keir Starmer has again insisted he will not quit despite calls from dozens of Labour MPs in the wake of the party's local election mauling. The Prime Minister warned that if he left No 10 it would "plunge the country into chaos".
Speaking in south London today, Sir Keir said: “I’m not going to walk away from this; that would plunge the country into chaos. But that doesn’t mean we don’t need to respond. It doesn’t mean we don’t need to rebuild. It doesn’t mean that we don’t need to set out the path ahead. That’s what I’m going to do in the coming days.”
He said Labour needs to set out arguments about hope and the future, and appeal to young people, admitting that “the hope wasn’t there enough in the first two years of this Government”.
He added: “I will be setting out those arguments, but more than anything, setting out with clarity the values and convictions that drive me.”
It comes as a string of Labour backbenchers have publicly demanded Sir Keir should either quit or set a timetable for his departure.
Labour lost more than 1,000 councillors in Thursday's ballots, with Reform UK making stunning gains in the Red Wall.
Sir Keir has brought former prime minister Gordon Brown back into Government in a desperate bid to cling to power.

“No kings”
No quislings.
Yeah, because it's been working so well up until now. Prepare to get the boot.
Starmer serves at the pleasure of the UK’s Deep State.
Until that changes, one way or another, W⚓️ ain’t going anywhere.
Great Britain is now Britain.
This starmer creep is such an incredible loser.
However, he does supply those of us who don’t live there with lots Of laughs. What a pathetic joke.
More like:
Sir Keir said:"I was installed to drag Britain back under the thumb of non-elected, self appointed masters based in Brussels and Davos, using the fig leaf of being 'democratically elected', and to continue the replacement of the native population. And until that happens, I'm not going anywhere".
Stick a fork in him, he’s done.
I am the indispensable man. You all would be lost without ME!
I am the glue that holds this country together.
Without me at the helm, the ship of government would be adrift and would run aground and all would be lost.
This man is an arrogant egotist without the inherent ability to back it up.
Hopey-Changey mode!.........
Two points:
1) The Labour MPs who want Starmer to quit want to replace him with either a radical Muslim or a Maoist. If Starmer goes things will get a lot worse.
2) The UK actually HAS a King, with the theoretical power to dismiss Starmer, to appoint a new PM (with some limitations since 1688), and to dissolve Parliament and call a new election before 2029.
Some people are talkers, others are doers, he’s all talk and no action. And his talk is quite feeble at best.
Completely tone deaf.
He doesn’t quit then they must Fire Him , he’s only there because of the party not the voters
He will hold on as long as possible, maybe another year or two—then he will be gone like a puff of smoke—a dim memory as things change in England. Change they will or the nation will be ripped apart. Charles will be gone and dramatic change ushered in to save what is left. England faced many problems in the past and won the day—Napoleon, Kaiser Bill, Depression, Hitler and the Blitz. They will weather this storm.
See the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022.
The UK’s Deep State planned well.
Note the timing of that act.
KCIII won’t pose a problem for the UK’s Deep State.
The problem is that he probably likes what the current Parliament of Rumps is doing and certainly fears what a Reform led Parliament would do if a new election were held now.
Labor knows that they are in serious trouble and that Starmer is the popular focus of the public’s ire.
Many in the Labor party want to shed that focal point but he is not in the least interested in accommodating them because it would end his career.
Labor could call for a No Confidence Vote to rid themselves of Starmer but that would trigger an election if Starmer lost and they are pretty sure they know how that would come out
Labor would be out of power and a new coalition government would have Reform at the front and center.
“...he’s all talk and no action.”
He has been very active in destroying the country.
starmer: blah, blah, blah ... i’m too important to fail ...
