Donald Tusk: Nato is disintegrating
The Telegraph ^ | May 2, 2026 | James Rothwell

Nato is “disintegrating”, Poland’s prime minister has said after the United States announced it was withdrawing 5,000 troops from Germany.

Donald Tusk made the dire assessment of the Western alliance on Saturday amid an escalating war of words between Donald Trump and Germany over Berlin’s criticism of the war on Iran.

In a post on X on Saturday, Mr Tusk wrote: “The greatest threat to the transatlantic community are not its external enemies, but the ongoing disintegration of our alliance. We must all do what it takes to reverse this disastrous trend.”

On Friday evening, the US department of defence announced that it would withdraw 5,000 US troops from Germany, where almost 40,000 are stationed, over the next “six to 12 months”.

Mr Trump then on Saturday said the US would withdraw “a lot further” than 5,000 troops.

NATO is disintegrating because its major European members, plus Canada, have de facto withdrawn from it by reducing their militaries to ineffective skeletons.

Open up Fort Trump and instruct Vlad to leave Poland alone. Let the rest of Europe go back to carving each other up.

A number of former Presidents have tried without success to get the European nations to step up and meet their NATO obligations, along comes Donald Trump and forces the issue, either the European nations step up and meet their obligations or the USA will be out.

IMO, its tough love, which is the only way I know of to get these countries to live up to their obligations.

Vlad doesn’t want Poland. Mainly because he knows he’s get his ass kicked.

This. The United States is not willing to provide for Europe, while Europe looks down its snooty nose and refuses to pull its weight.

The United States is simply doing what every empire in history has done. The US dollar (and global reserve currency) has been debased by profligate and wasteful government spending, what was the greatest industrial supply chain on the planet in 1990 has been dismantled and sent overseas to enemies of the nation, the culture has been destroyed systematically through unchecked immigration and the destruction of public education. The US can simply no longer afford to station troops globally to protect its overseas allies who refuse to fund their own defense.

In the year 383 the Roman Empire began withdrawing troops from Britain signaling its inability to defend its empire in the outer provinces. Less than 100 years later in 476 the Germanic king Odoacer deposed the last Roman emperor, signaling the end of the Roman empire in Western Europe.

With $40 million in debt, growing by $1.5 trillion per year, the US seems to be at the point where its “service” economy cannot support the global military force projection the highly productive manufacturing economy permitted. The United States no longer has the industrial capability that permitted it to supply military forces in Europe and Asia simultaneously to win the second World War. Donald Trump’s strategic vision of retreating to the Western Hemisphere, thereby forcing western Europe and our Asian allies (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and the Philippines) to shoulder their own defense, will buy time and free up economic resources to rebuild the industrial might of the United States if Congress, the federal bureaucracy and the American people will support this vision past 2028. If the political establishment, and the American people lack the will to retrench and rebuild our industrial strength, our place in the world will be much diminished in 100 years, if the nation survives at all.

"IMO, it's tough love, which is the only way I know of to get these countries to live up to their obligations."

When NATO countries recently agreed to raise their own defense funding to 5%, Spain rejected it, and cut a deal that they should only have to fund 3.5% of their GDP for defense. Spain is barely at the original 2% funding that they agreed to in 2014. It will take them many years to reach 3.5%. Much smaller countries such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have already accepted the 5% GDP funding rate.

If NATO disintegrates, doesn’t that solve the Ukraine problem? Ukraine can no longer join NATO.

What’s funny is now the fags are mad at him, because he knows that to give into them would be political suicide for him.

“Disastrous trend” - NATO was formed in opposition to a country that ceased to exist in 1991. We, the American taxpayers, continue to pour billions into an entity which exists to fund Europe’s defense from our pockets.

Some defend Tusk, and say he’s a conservative, or a centrist, but would a Conservative appoint someone like this as Minister of Education?

Barbara Nowacka

Barbara Nowacka declares herself as atheist. She is a supporter of the right to abortion, as well as the state financing in vitro fertilization for single women. She also focuses on LGBT rights and is in favor of granting same-sex couples the right to adopt children. She sees the causes[clarification needed] of racist attitudes and xenophobic prejudices in social inequalities.
