A chorus of bipartisan criticism is mounting over the security loopholes at the venue for the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner — while President Trump and his allies insisted Saturday’s shooting proves the need for his planned über-secure White House ballroom.
Critics slammed the security loopholes that allowed guests to check into the historic Washington Hilton hotel without undergoing weapons screenings from the outside.
Authorities say that’s how Cole Tomas Allen was able to sneak a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives into the building where President Trump, most of his cabinet, and many top members of Congress were mingling with journalists.

He's right you know. Plus the bunker and command center they're building underneath it needed an upgrade from the one FDR put in almost a century ago.
It sounds like the whole security program needs an overhaul.
The logic is weak.
Sure we need the ballroom but it’s not like the Potus lives in a WH bubble. He’s going to be out and about, making speeches and appearing in all kinds of public venues throughout his term.
This is a security failure, not a building failure.
The building is the security failure in this instance, it seems.
Massive failure by the Secret Service. In chasing the shooter, multiple agents fired rounds at him and nobody hit him!
Shooting at a moving target is a different skill set than firing at stationary target at a range.
It needs to have a second basement for the dungeons to put Congressional “Leadership” in, as appropriate.
And how would some people know this unless they were briefed?
True.
Big time.
Heads need to roll. Tried to be another Butler, PA event.
That’s what Gitmo is for. Let them enjoy the dank, steaming dungeons of the tropics!
Would the WH ballroom have capacity to host such an event?
“Would the WH ballroom have capacity to host such an event?”
I would think so as it is planned for 650 seated guests.
The building isn’t why the shooter gained entry. I watched a continuous loop of the shooter rushing the magnetometer check point and counted at east 8 agents who failed to block his entrance even though he was running at them, a red flag by itself. The one agent closest to his path fell backwards without being touched and knocked her partner backwards as well. Keystone cops stuff. It will be a miracle if Trump survives this term.
“The building isn’t why the shooter gained entry.”
Sure was, as he had rented a room there and gained access to the building days before the dinner and brought his guns and knives in with him.
“Shooting at a moving target is a different skill set than firing at stationary target at a range.”
They train to hit moving targets. So, what’s your point?
A hotel is a terrible place. Ask RFK Jr. about what happened to his dad in one.
“It will be a miracle if Trump survives this term.”
Really. Thankfully, God handles miracles. All we can do is pray.
