The heiress to the Budget Rent a Car fortune was attacked in her Hollywood Hills mansion on Thursday by a group of masked men, authorities said.
Margaux Mirkin, 68, was strangled and assaulted by at least two men who were seen entering her home on Lookout Mountain Avenue at around 8pm, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Officers responded to the home just before 8:30pm, NBC Los Angeles reported. Police said the victim was taken to the hospital for her injuries and was later released in stable condition.
Through property records, the Daily Mail identified Mirkin as the owner of the home, which has a brick façade, stained glass windows and at least three balconies. Mirkin did not return a request for comment.
Neighbors also confirmed to multiple outlets that she lives in the home. She was often seen out on walks and was described as someone who mostly keeps to herself but is friendly to others.
'She's one of our normal neighbors. A senior having her retired life,' neighbor Lee Bridges told KABC-TV. 'Normally the only crime issue we have in this neighborhood is people breaking into mailboxes or cars so this is absolutely new and I'm upset about this.'
Bridges said she would be checking up on Mirkin in the coming days to make sure she is okay.
As of Saturday, the suspects who police say assaulted Mirkin are still on the run. They left her home in a white Honda Accord, police said.
The men took cash and jewelry, police said.
Neighbors told NBC Los Angeles that some of the jewelry stolen were pieces given to her by her late husband William De Rothschild, who died in a Laurel Canyon house fire in 2024.

How do you retire from being an heiress?
There goes Mexico again, vomiting its disease north of the border spreading death and despair.
Shoulda moved out with the other millionaires.
Newsome’s fault for sure. Maybe Biden’s fault, too?
Soft target. 68 - too young.
Lots of info on the victim, nothing on the perps, who are at large....
It’s someone that knows her, works for her, or is related to her.
A new “Manson Family”?
Invoking The Coulter Rule here.
Follow the money.
Cui Bono?
Given her rental car business history, kinda torn on this one. /sarc
Seriously, it shouldn’t happen to anyone.
Keep voting democrat, Crimafornia
She survived.
In CA and under federal law a person would just put their estate into a trust to protect it. People that inherit ~$6M or more from the estate would have to pay taxes. But the estate is protected. Glad she is still alive. Hopefully her attackers will end up in San Quentin prison.
Actually, the estate tax trigger is now 15 million.
Notice that the effing useless sacks of feces that pose as police officers took their sweet time responding...thirty minutes!
Could have been a copycat of the Guthrie mom abduction?
I was walking behind a Mex family today at our beautiful park. The kids threw their water bottles on the trail and mom or whatever she is, dropped used tissues. The younger kids picked up stones along the way and began to pelt the birds on the ground or in the bushes.
Just third world trash doing what third world trash does.
I have never been more disgusted with a group of people who really deserve to be called trash.
Boy, she lost her husband 2yrs ago in a fire and now this.
That’s a lot to go thru.
Were they from Mexico? Mexicans are from Mexico-not the US. They sound just like the tourists from mostly-out-of-state big cities who walk around in our parks along the river in this rural area, tossing snack wrappers, throwing stuff at the ducks and squirrels, etc as they stroll along-city rats with no manners.
And they are not from another country-just trashy people with bad manners. We teach our kids plain country manners here, no matter our ethnicity or race...
