Ukraine Is Europe’s War Now
The Wall Street Journal ^ | April 24, 2026 | Kim Mackrael, Laurence Norman

The fight against Russia in Ukraine is now firmly Europe’s war.

The European Union this week signed off on the equivalent of $105 billion in loans to keep Kyiv afloat through the end of next year—but officials warned that it may not be enough.

With Russia determined to continue its four-year invasion until it dominates its neighbor, and President Trump pulling back from Europe and focused on the Middle East, Ukraine finds itself reliant on the traditionally gun-shy EU in its war for survival.

The confirmation of the loan ahead of a summit in Cyprus on Thursday, long blocked by recently ousted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, marked a fresh sign of resolve and unity in the bloc.

“For the first time in years there are no Russians in the room,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media, an apparent reference to Orbán, who had warm ties with Moscow but stayed away from the EU summit after recently losing an election. “Huge relief,” Tusk added.

The funding decision, which Orban cleared this week following his election defeat, comes at a critical moment for Ukraine, which needs the cash to sustain its economy and its military amid relentless Russian assaults as Moscow seeks to grab more land in its neighbor’s east. Kyiv now depends on its Western neighbors for money to shore up its budget and fund weapons purchases to help it hold off Russia’s giant military. The Trump administration has stopped providing military aid to Ukraine and sought to mediate an end to the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the EU funding could push Russia toward negotiations. “It means that we are not empty, and we are strong,” he said.

I don’t care what they do at this point. Not our monkeys not our circus. So long as we aren’t paying for it I’m all for letting the eurotrash have their little spectacle.

I don’t even care who wins anymore.

No. These are White Christians being killed. Look at the Africans “Zelensky” and “Budanov” are bringing to replace the dead Whites. Just like the replacement plans for the rest of the West.

It always was. Maybe Europe is tuning in to that fact now

They lost all their men in the two world wars. Now they’ve given in to the worst scourge, artificial birth control

They have to face their issues alone and without the USA enabling them. Without the USA pretending they’re partners. They are not

Now they have a major invasion

They’ll be luckily to figure out then succeed in preserving it

I believe we are out

you see, that's so strange because (unlike the Israeli army) we see this on numerous occasions by the Russian army.

While Zelensky, Budanov and their co-religionists are getting ready to bring in blacks from Africa as the replacement population.

The ONLY one who is bringing blacks to Ukraine right now is Putin, who brings in mercenaries from Africa.

LOL, to the Russians setting up a cross, while they have destroyed more than 700 churches in Ukraine.

Been saying Ukraine is a European problem since the start of the war.

Was always Europe’s war - never ours, or NATO’s.

Since they have been “remiss” in assistance in saving the world from Iran, it’s about time they took responsibility for something.

Since the Russians aren’t making much in the way of net gains of territory in Donbas, this would be a good time to try to put a peace deal in place.

The Russians are going to be difficult if they are winning.

Ukraine is fighting the #2 military in the world, Russia, with a population which is three times larger than Ukraine’s.

Here’s the problem in a nutshell. The US administration, and people like you, really just think in the simplest terms of this being a numbers game.

It doesn’t really work like that. If the Russians continue to fight this war this way, then all they’re doing is endlessly sending people into a meat grinder. At the end of it, even a victory would be pyrrhic.

In Vietnam, the USA had technology and numbers on its side, but it ended up walking away having incurred massive losses.

In Afghanistan, the USSR had technology and numbers on its side, it still walked away with massive losses and the conflict effectively bankrupted the Union.

Trump thought his special military operation in Iran would be over in two weeks; how’s that working out? He’s completely wrecked international freight traffic through the Middle East, sent oil prices soaring, and for the first time in history Iran’s profiting from charging any shipping moving through the strait when this time last year (per centuries of international law and precedent) that shipping was FREE.

Russia is facing the mother of all unintended consequences with this war against Ukraine. Even without the US helping (well, other than bailing Putin out every time it looks like Putin might be on the rocks), the Ukes are making mincemeat of western Russia as well as the Russian forces on occupied territory.

It’s not enough after Zelensky and his cronies take their 80% cut off the top.

Ukraine finds itself reliant on the traditionally gun-shy EU in its war for survival.

The Europeans may not be directly involved in the fighting, but they haven't been 'gun-shy' when it comes to aiding the Ukrainians in holding back the Russians.

The 90+ billion Euros might be enough for this year, but it might not all be needed or used, because, it's the Russian military that is now being depleted of arms/weapons and ammunition and food and fuel, and most importantly, MANPOWER. Russia is running out of troops to keep up the fight.

Russia is also suffering major strikes on its oil fields and oil refineries, to the tune that the Russia economy is going bankrupt, and with a bankrupt economy, Russia will have to pull out of Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine has always been a European problem; it's just that, when the U.S. was the main supplier of arms and economic assistance, the Europeans didn't have to be involved as much. Now, it's a problem for the Europeans only and the U.s. won't matter anymore when it comes to Europe taking care of their own problems. That's why relations between Europe and the U.S. are so chilled at the moment. Trump pushed them away, and they responded, and part of that response is the lack of European assistance with the war in Iran. Some actions produce equal and sometimes opposite reactions.

It’s laughable.

Vlad is the big bad boogeyman for sovereign nations who kneel to an unelected authoritarian bureaucracy in Brussels all the while being invaded by the muzzie hordes.

EU is every bit as authoritarian as Putin’s Russia.

The only differences that I can see between the Euroweenies and the Ruskis is that leadership is maintained by the shedding of political opponents blood in Russia whereas the Euroweenies have rigged the “democratic” processes to transfer power peacefully.

But in the Ruski column they have the energy and energy policy to stay warm in the winter and they may be under an iron fist but they will never be under the iron fist of Sharia law.
