Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.) died Wednesday at the age of 80, his office said.

Scott, who was seeking a 13th House term this November, is the fifth member of the 119th Congress to die since lawmakers convened in January 2025.

A cause of death was not immediately available.

Scott, a former advertising executive who was first elected to Congress in 2002, was facing six challengers in the May 19 primary amid criticism that he was too old to perform his duties effectively.

I believe Scott has been pretty much MIA for a couple of years now. I don't know who has been casting votes on his behalf.

Cause of death? He was 80.

“seeking a 13th House term” at age 80!!

It’s largely a well-paying do-nothing “job” that does nothing but torment Americans endlessly. Good riddance. He should have gotten out 15-20 years ago. Never speak ill of the dead is a good rule, but, in his case, good riddance to bad rubbish.

80 year olds died.

That is why we shouldn’t elect them.

Scott, who was seeking a 13th House term this November, is the fifth member of the 119th Congress to die since lawmakers convened in January 2025.

This is because these a**holes almost NEVER retire, even when they are clearly past the age where they should be trying to "govern" everyone else.

As of early 2026, the oldest sitting U.S. Senator is Chuck Grassley (R-IA), born in September 1933, who is 92 years old. Other oldest senators in the 119th Congress include Bernie Sanders (I-VT, 83), Mitch McConnell (R-KY, 83), Jim Risch (R-ID, 81), and Angus King (I-ME, 80).

As of early 2026, the oldest members of the U.S. House of Representatives are primarily in their mid-to-late 80s, with Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Hal Rogers (R-KY-5) among the eldest at 87. Other senior members include Maxine Waters (D-CA-43), 86, Steny Hoyer (D-MD-5), 85, and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-11), 84.

Another carcass posing as a representative has finally lost its ability to hide the fact that the man wasn't handling anything as far as his 'seat' went. Perhaps after the VRA is dealt with the people in those areas can actually get someone to represent their interests instead of the interest of whatever group of socialist pricks was using the seat of this dementia crazed "congressman" the last decade...

Wonderful idea, but it can’t happen. It would require both houses of Congress to vote by 2/3rds majority on a Constitutional Amendment imposing it.

(Yes, I’m aware of the provision of 2/3rds of the states calling for a Constitutional Convention, but do we want to open up that can of worms?)

Trump is 79 not exactly young.

80 is the new 60. An 80 year old man has less than a one-in-sixteen chance of dying within a year, and a life expectancy of more than eight years.

The median age of both Republican and Democratic representatives is 59.5. In the Senate the corresponding numbers are 64.5 for Republicans and 66.0 for Democrats.

LOL, some say Trump is “crazy like a fox”, while others say he’s just crazy. His mercurial style is wearing me out.

I’m not sure. It’s hard to keep up. Dems lost Swalwell, Scott and, Cherfilus-McCormick in the past couple weeks. GOP had Rep. Tony Gonzales resign.

Anyone else?
