A gunman who fatally shot a Canadian tourist and wounded more than a dozen others atop a historic pyramid in Mexico on Monday has been identified, according to officials.

Authorities identified the gunman as 27-year-old Julio Cesar Jasso, a Mexican national, according to a state official who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

The shooter probably thought they were Americans.

He offed himself. Last name Jason.
Several tourists injured themselves trying to leave the top level of that pyramid. Pyramids are not made for the less than surefooted. Risky to use even during moments of calm.

No matter his motives, the Meheecan authorities are going to be tight lipped about it. Doesn’t sound like cartel, but who knows. Some El Mencho fanboi? Disgruntled illegal returned to his home?

Kind of funny that the Canuck thought she was sticking it to America by vacationing in Mexico. Mexico stuck it to her instead.

Should have gone to Dizzy Whirl.

I saw “The Ruins”. I didn’t think it was a documentary.

I climbed to that pyramid when I was 27 years old and fairly fit. There were about 200 steps, each one of them not short risers like we have now, but about a foot high. I made it to the top OK, but my legs were pretty shaky on the way down, even after a bit of a breather. Even with the extra adrenalin of trying to flee a maniac gunman, it couldn't have been too easy for these people to get away.

Funny, I was just pondering if the motive was some kind of modern sacrifice. There is a chamber in the Moon Pyramid that contained a few human sacrifice victims. Probably dumped most of them outside the plaza though.

Going up those pyramid steps looks exhausting.
Strange how the steps are about a foot high. when the average Mexican of that time would have been very short legged. I have heard that before, about the high steps.

The cartels prefer to chop up or burn people alive for the viewing audience. There is a whole site documenting cartel crimes that is pretty horrific BUT HEY. The democrats still want them here.

I would suggest that the steps were high to prevent the populace from getting too close to the priests, and that the higher one could climb, the closer to 'god' one was.

Of course the high priests might have had an internal hidden passage so that they could seem to have climbed very high with little effort.

There’s a higher incidence of schizophrenia in hispanic populations when compared to other populations.
And they dump them all in the US.
