Virginians will head to the polls Tuesday to approve or reject a closely watched constitutional amendment that could reshape the state’s congressional map ahead of the 2026 elections. The standalone spring referendum will cap months of legal battles, political messaging and unusually high early voting interest.
The vote follows a fast-moving and contentious push by Democratic lawmakers to authorize mid-decade redistricting, a move framed as a response to similar efforts in other states but sharply criticized by Republicans and some reform advocates. The proposal has drawn national attention and prompted multiple court challenges, including disputes over whether the measure should appear on the ballot at all.
Early voting, which began March 6, ended Saturday after turnout showed notable engagement across parts of the state, particularly in GOP-leaning areas initially and in Democrat-rich Northern Virginia in the final days before the referendum. Now, election officials are preparing for in-person voting Tuesday, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

VOTE, VIRGINIANS, VOTE!!
...VOTE, VIRGINIANS, VOTE!! NO...!!!!!
there....!! fixed that.....
Good fix. I was (possibly incorrectly) assuming that FReepers would know that ‘No’ was the good vote but I KNOW that some conservatives/Republicans are frequently too lazy to actually go and cast their vote.
The fact these even came to a vote is an embarrassment. Almost half (5) of the districts include Fairfax County. Why? Former CIA candidates who live there and can stay on message for the Deep State.
Their goal is to impeach then remove the President and put him in prison so they can show their absolute power.
The blue parts of VA seem to be motivated and angry. Yes, you conservative Virginians, it’s all your fault, and the commies are about to punish you a little more.
The whole point is half will be Washington-oriented, while the others are oriented towards college towns and urban enclave of Richmond. They want to cut representation to primarily one part.
Democrats want 20 seats for Washington.
If I could vote 10 times more, I'd vote no...
But if I did that, I'd be a Democrat.
Hoss
If approved, one county, Fairfax in the Washington suburbs, would have five, FIVE, congressmen.
If Virginia can do this, and it holds up in courts, what’s to stop republicans from doing the same and eliminating all democrat districts in red states?
The question on the ballot is so dishonestly framed, it’s already fooled some early voting Republicans, who are furious.
Virginians, regardless of party, are voting whether-or-not to disenfranchise themselves.
