Trump on extending ceasefire: 'Highly unlikely'

President Donald Trump on Monday said it was "highly unlikely" he would extend the ceasefire with Iran past Wednesday evening if Tehran did not reach agreement to end the conflict.

The ceasefire with Iran is set to expire this week and hostilities could resume after talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, failed to result in a permanent agreement. Trump told Bloomberg on Monday that it was "highly unlikely" he would seek to renew or extend the ceasefire.

The U.S. has sought a commitment from Iran to never possess a nuclear weapon, an end to its funding of proxy groups in the region, and a reduction of its ballistic missile arsenal. The Iranians, in turn, have demanded that the U.S. withdraw from the Middle East.

The current ceasefire began in early April and came ahead of a deadline that Trump imposed to reach an agreement or begin the bombing of civilian infrastructure in Iran. The last minute deal came at the behest of Pakistan, which brokered the ceasefire, though the parties disagreed on what they had agreed to and a ceasefire in Lebanon became a sticking point for later talks.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Does our President have the will to rid us of this scourge, or will he accept the next BS offer from the IRGC?

President Trump has absolutely zero option to destroy the Islamic State at this point.

If he lets it survive it will soon be equipped with nuclear weapons supplied by Russia or China via North Korea because they have learned that a nuclear Iran is in their interests

Every minute they gain puts them closer to having a device...
If they believe they have one they will NOT test it on some remote spot.
One can only hope these talks do not result in such an outcome.

I think he said he wanted a cease fire. No nukes, i’m not sure he wants to rid us of the scourge. and really he can’t even if he wanted to do. It is more than a political issue.

I love our President, but Trump needs to quit talking about the great deals he is trying to make with these liars. Keep it short and sweet and non-committal. Let Iran run their mouths and then knock their teeh out.

“Destroying the Islamic State” with the available forces was never a possibility.

I really think part of Trump’s motivation was the knowledge that the next Democrat president will return to funding Iran’s terror regime and intent to acquire nukes. I think he is going to make it so no amount of bribes from the next administration will be able to prop up their desires to share in the ability to bring about world domination.

“and really he can’t even if he wanted to do.”

You are saying the US military does not have the capacity to do the job.

I love President Trump. But now is the time for less talk and more action. There is a big job ahead. The nuclear material needs to be recovered. All the IRGC and mullahs need to be put down like rabid dogs. I'm afraid President Trump has already been sucked in to the islamic games: Hormus is open. Hormuz is closed. Ceasefire. No ceasefire. Safe passage. No safe passage.

I thought Iran had no more military assets. I thought all their navy was sunk, and the aircraft obliterated. If all this were true, we could all hop on a picnic boat and party on the Hormuz.

They have lost all of their major combatant Navy ships - 158, their entire fleet. They still have a lot of small speedboats, like commercial pleasure craft, from which they can fire heavy machine guns and shoulder-fired missiles, or drop mines.

Also, they have a variety of drones and land-based missiles that they can fly over the Strait.

The ships that they shot at recently had been guided by Iran (pretending to clear their passage) to sail close enough to the shore of Iran, that they were able to shoot at them from the shore.
