President Trump’s decision not to attend the NRA’s 2026 Annual Meetings is bringing the group’s influence into question.

The NRA’s Annual Meetings are currently underway in Houston, Texas.

The Hill reported that Trump “[skipped the NRA’s] annual convention this weekend, his second snub in as many years of an organization long seen as a key political ally for Republicans.”

NRA director of public affairs Justin Davis spoke on Trump’s absence, claiming the organization was not concerned by it. He said, “The president is obviously incredibly busy with worldwide affairs right now, and we’re incredibly close to the administration. We work hand-in-glove with them on all kinds of two-way issues.”

It was a snub. He can’t be bothered to see people. He expects them to support him automatically.

I doubt Trump even registered this at the time - but the NRA did publicly condemn the death of Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE in Minnesota. They maintained Pretti’s 2nd Amendment rights.

The NRA is in the business of recruiting NRA members.

Are they pounding the drums on repealing the 1934 NFA? The 1968 GCA? Reagan's assault weapons ban?

We've had carte blanche over the past year to roll back decades of legislative attacks on our 2A rights and nothing has been done.

Not by the NRA, not by the GOP majority congress, and most certainly, not by President Trump.

In his heart, he’s a New York lib who doesn’t actually support gun rights. He doesn’t need 2A people any more.

Maybe he did.

And maybe everyone else should.

Yeah, it was definitely a snub. Why shouldn’t he leave Washington during an especially trying time in the war with Iran?

Who does he think he is, anyway? /s /s /s

NRA has been headed downhill for a while now. They have gotten squishy wokish progressive on us. And spent too damn much money enriching themselves. I don’t blame President Trump for dissing them.

The NRA is a 2nd amendment supporting organization... in past history only.

wayne lapierre and his croneys pretty much made the nra into their own piggybank, spending lavishly, including possibly a summer intern, while giving lip service to defending the 2nd amendment and RTKBA, while other organizations like GOA and local organizations did most of the heavy lifting.

Yes, lapierre is gone now, and the nra claims they have a new board, but the damage is done and the organization is powerless now. What people think of the nra is what they were in the past.

Supposedly because of the spending, the nra didn't have funds to file or fight many actual lawsuits to support gun rights.

Rumor has it that they have had such big deficits, that the nra museum has had much of it's collection sold off...

Some info on some of the corruption

There was $14k spent on an apartment for a summer intern by the nra, that I can't find a good link with detailed info on it, now.

Trump subs the NRA? The only reason I belong is because it is required to keep the membership at my gun club. The NRA has compromised to top many times to bull shit gun regulations over the years to deserve my full support.
It should not be expected for Trump to show up to help increase their mmembership.

Because of the NRA’s past controversies over policies and leadership, I can see why Pres. Trump is moving to a “no position” with the NRA.

I had not heard that. Did a quick check with Google (AI) Gemini which confirmed your statement.

Comment spoken like a true anti Trumper....

ignoring all the small steps that have occurred to advance gun rights while he’s been in office

Stuff like
No fee filing now for short barrelled rifles, shotguns, or suppressors - should have been removed from registration but politicians played games

Hegseth allowing firearms on military bases (details to be worked out)

Trump DOJ saying ar15’s are in common usage - making them more difficult to ban by states

When no one is in control, then anyone can do what they want.

This is why I hope Pres. Trump reduces the weapons of the people who think they are in control in Iran. Temporary anarchy, in this case, is preferable to theo-fascism.
