NJ Transit officials formally announced its sky-high $150 round-trip ticket prices for trains headed to FIFA World Cup games at the Meadowlands, confirming controversial reports from earlier this week.
To make matters worse, Kris Kolluri, president of the Garden State’s largest transit network, also told reporters Friday that just 40,000 tickets will be made available, and once they’re gone, remaining rail-riding soccer fans will be out of luck.
He also said two shuttle buses would be available to take passengers to New York-New Jersey Stadium from Port Authority and Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine in Nutley at a teeth-clenching cost of $80 a pop.
The staggering price tag, a more than 1,000% increase over the usual $12.90 roundtrip fare for the 18-mile journey, was first reported by The Athletic, citing an inside source.
NJ Gov. Mikie Sherrill has been at loggerheads with FIFA over the transit system’s plan to jack up the price of a train ticket from Penn Station to the eight matches taking place at the Meadowlands.

Yeah but the trains might actually be safe on those days.
I wouldn’t pay 150 cents to go.
Sherrill should also increase the NJ Transit price Newark International Airport and Penn Station because most of the people who take the train do not live in NJ.
They run NJ Transit in the ground, with the political demands that keep the worst performing bus and train lines in the system still operating, and now, to help cover the financially bad way NJ Transit is run, they want to price-gouge the FIFA customers.
What do you want to bet the governor of NJ would not be approving that if Biden and not Trump was associated with FIFA playoffs being held in the U.S. this year??
Easiest solution is to move the FIFA games out of NJ. Surely, they can find another stadium somewhere.
“I wouldn’t pay 150 cents to go.”
If I was somehow required to go, I would pay quite a lot not to go.
Lots of people have already booked flights and hotel rooms in NY/NJ for the World Cup.
if I ever get the urge to go,,,,,,
I’ll just lie down until it goes away.
I’m kind of neutral on this. Only left these like soccer and most of the fans will be foreigners from out of the country anyway.

Someone should explain to Sherrill that turd-world countries and illegal aliens love soccer. She would probably offer free train service.
These communist kickball championships, bringing in rich foreigners, getting gypped by NJ. Lets say 60,000 visit, 20% will stay here illegally as visa overstayers. I hope no Muzz or IRGC agents set off bombs.
MLS is pretty popular. It is developing a cult following similar to NHL in this country.
Anyway, it is a better product to watch a World Cup game compared to the Super Bowl.
But this time there will be mandatory three-minute hydration breaks in every match, occurring around the 22nd minute of each half regardless of weather conditions aka TV ads.
Still better than a million ads during the Super Bowl.
Those price gouging rules are for the little people, not government.
I expect some soccer loving judge will invalidate the fare Article IV, Section 2, Clause 1increase under the Privileges and Immunities Clause in Article IV, § 2, c. 1 of the U.S. Constitution.
Still probably cheaper than parking and tolls.
It does seem possible to walk from the American Dream Mall and other places.
I had to check google maps to be sure I could walk to the Spanish Air Force museum west of Madrid.
The bigger issue for me would be that NJT is canceling much of their regular NYC rail transit service on those game days and ONLY operating service to and from MetLife Stadium. That’s probably why they’re charging so much for the World Cup riders — to make up for all the other lost revenue.
I think NJ Transit got greedy because FIFA did.
why would anyone pay to go watch a bunch of grown men play girls football?
