UK will not back blockade of Strait of Hormuz, PM Starmer says
Reuters ^ | April 13, 2026

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday that whatever the pressure, Britain would not be dragged into the Iran war nor be involved in ‌a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

"We're not supporting the blockade," he told BBC Radio 5 Live, adding that it was vital to get the Strait reopened.

"It is, in my view, vital that we get the Strait open and fully open, and that's where we've put all of our efforts in the last few weeks and we'll continue to do so," Starmer said.

Britain had minesweepers in the region, he said, and while he could not discuss operational matters, the military capability was "focused from our point of view on getting the Strait fully open".

Starmer said Britain was facing pressure to join the war, but he would not do so unless there was a "clear lawful basis" and a "clear thought-through plan".

"My decision has been very clearly that whatever the pressure, and there's been some considerable pressure, we're not getting dragged into the war," he said.

Starmer doesn’t want to upset the invaders in his country.

It is NOT a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

It is a block of all shipping going to/from Iran.

That is a HUGE difference.

The Media wants to pain it in the worst possible light. They lie.

Patton crossed the Rhine while “Sir Bernard Montgomery” was diddling around with a “well thought out plan”.

It is not a blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, it is a blockade of Iran. That is a huge difference. It means no oil can get out of Iran and no goods can get in to Iran; but, oil can get out of Kuwait, Saudi, Oman etc and goods can get to them. Since Iranian oil has been embargoed for a long time and no Iranian oil sold on the international market, there should be no change in oil prices, but the manipulation of oil prices continues.

This low life prick is not even close to being an ally and I wish Trump demands that england gets all diplomats out of the USA.

Let these bad toothed bastards line up with the communists and mooselimbs, they sure as hell can't be depended upon to assist us.

Starmer is like their version of Jimmy Carter, only dumber and more cowardly.

Many IGRC and regime people have properties and accounts in London.

Weird how they were able to avoid sanctions and find a home for their wealth in London......

The morons who pass as the ‘elite’ think Trump is in trouble, and are taking this opportunity to showcase their delusions of intellectual and moral superiority.

They are wrong, and it won’t take long for this to become evident.

This pantywaste wasted no time flying to the middle east to claim “We” have a cease fire, when he had nothing to do with anything at all. How far has the UK fallen...

The reality is that blockading Iran and controlling the Iranian coastline is a fundamental part of opening up the straits to shipping.

The Trump team is doing both the blockade and opening shipping lines parts of the same operation

They are a also starting mine clearing operations as well.

I'm sure that the Trump team is getting some long term agreements with the countries in the region in return. The United States has been taken for granted and taken advantage of in the region for a generation.
