A deputy with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office was shot and killed while in the line of duty on Thursday.
The deputy, who has not yet been identified, was among those serving an eviction notice around 10:20 a.m. when he was shot in the area of North Newcomb Street and West Grand Avenue in Porterville.
The suspected shooter, 60-year-old David Morales, has continued to fire shots at deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.
People in the area are being urged to shelter in place and schools are on lockdown.
The detective who was struck was taken to Sierra View Medical Center in Porterville following a tactical rescue, but later died, according to ABC 30.
The detective leaves behind a wife who is four months pregnant, per ABC 30.
Preparations are underway for a procession of the deputy's body from Sierra View Medical Center to the Tulare County Coroner's Office, per ABC 30.

California.
Why ask the obvious, everyone knows where Central Valley is located. /s/
Seriously, that was the first question that entered my mind too.
David Morales will STILL be evicted...and moved to the local prison. *SPIT*
Prayers up for this Officer and his family. Such a waste. :(
Sorry.
He won’t have to worry about where to live for a while.
It is about time that we have expedited trials and executions for anyone who kills law enforcement. If someone knows they will be executed within a month it might make them think twice.
With any luck he’ll be moved to the local crematory or pauper’s graveyard.
Or actually paying to live there.

A common event in uncivilized countries in which coldblooded murderers are RARELY executed.
Shootings like this worry my sister. My nephew is a Sheriff's deputy in the Central Valley, closer to Sacramento. He's got two young sons who probably also worry about news like this. In this shooting, the wife is 4 months pregnant, real sad.

That’s right…. I’m fairly certain it’s between those two areas of higher elevation. /sarc
