(Not Bill Nye 'The Science Guy'): Real Nuclear Strategy Scientist, MIT Prof. Theodore Postol: 'Iran's Missiles & Drones Were Underestimated'
Glenn Diesen YouTube ^ | 03/31/26 | Danish Prof. Glenn Diesen

Posted on 03/31/2026 7:09:04 AM PDT by CharlesOConnell

Not an entertainer or talk show celebrity, Postol has banks of lecture slides showing nuke-war damage, missiles & drones in eye-glazing technical detail. Take-away: if a cheap but accurate drone hits your apartment even with a reinforced safe-room, the building will collapse, so you'd better huddle in a shelter. But the destruction of radars means you have no warning. Your life is completely disrupted.

While U.S. Defense Industries (Lockheed-Martin, General Dynamics,TRW, etc.) have been getting fat pedalling us decades of useless, expensive whiz-bang systems that never worked but make fantastic Congressional pork: lean-mean Ukrainians, Russians, Chinese & Iranians have been furiously busy making highly lethal, extremely advanced, bare bones economical weapons from cheap off the shelf components.

U.S. vs. Russian aircraft comparason: An F-35 suffers landing gear failure & crash lands. A contractor tecnician has to be called to take weeks or months to restore airworthiness. When a MIG landing gear fails to deploy: The crew crash land it, get out & jack it up, and are ready to take off again.

The Ukrainians have gotten very good at shooting down drones.

“U.S. vs. Russian aircraft comparason:”

We have air supremacy over Iran.

Russia is afraid to fly over Ukraine.

“’Iran’s Missiles & Drones Were Underestimated’”

Damn good thing we found out now. Think they would be in 4-5 years at the rate they were going

Have you been following the Postol stuff found through the Zepp-LaRouche wing of thought? The LaRouche folks split between the Helga Zepp-LaRouche group at German-based Schiller Institute and an American group. Sort of Trump-critical versus Trump-supportive. Postol, at 79, is a longtime critic and saying what he has said for years.

The only thing worthy and likely correct in the report is that the U.S. DID likely underestimate HOW MANY missiles and drones Iran had.

Yet -magically!- all those cheap redundant systems are getting massacred on the ground by expensive US and Israeli aircraft that fly through supposedly some of the densest AD in the world without getting shot down.

The fact of the matter is that all that simplicity does come with a cost in capability, especially aircraft.

The US has simply under-invested in AD for decades, assuming its aircraft would clear the skies, and has dragged its feet in developing anything to meet the cheap drone threat despite four years of the Ukraine war showing how much of a threat that is.

BTW, Postol has been a leftist attack dog on anything resembling missile defense for decades. He has argued repeatedly that what Israel has already achieved with Iron Dome would be impossible.

“Damn good thing we found out now.”

That is my thought also, and we’ll hopefully take out most of them.

I think after the formal battle is over, aircraft, hopefully not ours, will continue to destroy their military sites.

The author is an idiot, as are those who give him credence.

We could also consider whether our CUAS abilities have been overestimated, under developed or in need of informed evolution/maturation.

Drones of unknown origin have been overflying US defense installations since the end of the Biden administration and a massive Chinese spy balloon that traversed the heartland unmolested by the Biden regime, was supposedly not detected by the US military until civilians reported it to authorities. While the US now routinely shoots down ballistic missiles, something the Democrats said was impossible during the Reagan administration, it would seem that drones and even balloons have been underestimated as a threat.

I agree. Say what you will, but the Iranians, and anyone else on the planet for that matter, would trade their arms for ours in a heartbeat.
