Los Angeles County saw the largest decline of any county in the United States in 2025, according to new census data published on March 26.

Nearly 54,000 people moved out of L.A. County between July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025, U.S. Census data shows. The decline is part of an ongoing trend. In 2020 L.A. County was estimated to have more than 10 million residents. As of 2025, the county was thought to have just under 9.7 million residents.

It’s unclear where the fleeing Angelinos are moving. However, the neighboring counties of Riverside and San Bernardino saw a combined increase of 21,131 residents between 2024 and 2025, according to U.S. Census data.

Burning down everyone’s house was pretty much a deal breaker.

Nearly 54,000 people moved out of L.A. County between July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025...

Not nearly enough to make the place livable again.

Los Angeles Palisades Fire Rebuilds: 13 Total. As of February 23, 2026, of the 6,571 homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire in unincorporated Los Angeles County, a total of 13 homes have been rebuilt, according to the official LA Recovers website

I think I see a problem with California government. It is not about governing but control and power.

When I built my house in Texas I owned the land for a couple of years. When I told the builder to build my house, 5 months later I moved into it. Permits were quick and easy almost just a formality. Oddly, the permit for the septic system was quick and easy but very exact. The county does percolation tests to determine the size of the septic system needed. They did not hold up construction and billing was reasonable. I put the waterline from the meter in myself. I rented a rock saw and spent two days on it cutting 400 feet of trench through limestone and then laying the PVC pipe myself. That would never happen in California. Saved myself about 2k which would be 4k today. If California was like Texas every damn one of those houses could be rebuilt by now.

There are so many illegals in LA Country I don’t know what a supposed change in 50K on 10 million is supposed to be.

At one time, it was estimated there were 100K CANADIAN illegals living in S California. So not all in LA County, but still...

I agree totally. I built my house with my dad in 1989 in SE Idaho. I got permits for the well, septic tank and system, went thru electrical inspections and start to finished with mortgage was 6 months. I worked a full time job during that period. My dad built, layed the out walls and we stood them after I got home from work or on my days off. We followed all the codes on every house we built for 50 years. I watch Adam Carolla ( his house survived the CA fires). He tracks the Malibu, Pacific Palisades rebuild on YouTube. It’s pathetic what a those people are going through. I was a framer not a cabinet maker. My wife has me building a Murphy Bed and those little marks on the tape mean things. Oak veneer plywood cost $ 100 a sheet. Dad said measure twice, cut once. Now it’s measure three times, think about it then cut. Then hope you got it right. It’s hell to get old. Godspeed. Regards
