~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Bragg, North Carolina

NCfortbragg1

Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is a military installation of the United States Army in North Carolina, and is one of the largest military installations in the world, with around 54,000 military personnel. It is located within Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett, and Moore counties and borders the towns of Fayetteville, Spring Lake, and Southern Pines.

It is named for native North Carolinian Confederate General Braxton Bragg, who had previously served in the United States Army in the Mexican-American War. Fort Bragg is one of ten United States Army installations named for officers who led military units of the Confederacy in the American Civil War.

Fort Bragg covers over 251 square miles. It is the home of the Army's XVIII Airborne Corps and is the headquarters of the United States Army Special Operations Command, which oversees the U.S. Army 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) and 75th Ranger Regiment. It is also home to the U.S. Army Forces Command, U.S. Army Reserve Command, and Womack Army Medical Center.

Fort Bragg maintains two airfields: Pope Field, where the United States Air Force stations global airlift and special operations assets as well as the Air Force Combat Control School, and Simmons Army Airfield, where Army aviation units support the needs of airborne and special operations forces on post.

NCfortbragg4

XVIII Airborne Corps rapidly deploys ready Army forces anywhere in the world by air, land or sea, entering forcibly if necessary, to shape, deter, fight and win. The Corps headquarters provides mission command as an Army, Joint or Combined Task Force headquarters.

The XVIII Airborne Corps is “America’s Contingency Corps” and Fort Bragg is the home of the Army’s Airborne and Special Operations Forces.

NCfortbragg3

The 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) is a division-level special operations forces command within the United States Army Special Operations Command. The command was first established in 1989 and reorganized in 2014 grouping together the Army Special Forces (a.k.a. "the green berets"), psychological operations, civil affairs, and support troops into a single organization operating out of its headquarters at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The mission of 1SFC (A) is to organize, equip, train, and validate forces to conduct full-spectrum special operations in support of United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Geographic Combatant Commanders, American ambassadors, and other governmental agencies.

The new command includes all seven Special Forces groups (including the five active duty and two Army National Guard groups), two Psychological Operations groups, a civil affairs brigade, and a sustainment brigade. The Command has the ability to rapidly deploy a high-level headquarters to run sustained, unconventional campaigns in foreign theaters.

Howdy radu!

Hehehe, butt-bustin’ indeed. Biggest event of the year is in two weeks, so I’m a head spinnin’ zombie. Lots of fun, but dang glad this one is only once a year.

Hope you’re doing well!

Oof! At least you’re getting the biggest event out of the way early in the year. Still plenty more to keep you hopping though.

All’s well here. Just beating down the jungle. The early Spring has everything growing like crazy.

Hey there, radu!

I sure did! It felt really good too. That is until the temp reached 88 today. I’m already over the heat. LOL! Unfortunately that won’t really be till seven months have passed, LOL!

Did you get some more mowing done today?

This gettin’ old thing kinda sux, doesn’t it? LOL Little by little we can do less and less.
As long as we can get out of bed each day, life is still good.

All’s good here. Enjoying nice weather and watching everything green up around the area. The dismal brown of winter is finally gone.
The downside is a lot of mower time. LOL

Dang, it does look like a long summer ahead for y’all.
Could be for us too. Supposed to be in the 80s the rest of the week, though we might not be that warm in this area of the state. From what they say it’ll be cloudy a lot down here and that’ll keep the temp down, like it did today. The sun finally broke out around 5:00.

Yes, more mowing got done. Along the driveway tomorrow, then I really need to give my sinuses a break.

I’m sure the summer will be long for y’all too, especially since you are in the southern part of the state. Our difference is, you’ll have higher humidity most of the time, which makes things more uncomfortable and sweaty.

Bravo for getting more of the mowing done. Hope it’ll only be a couple more times so you can breathe for a while. Plus enjoy a gorgeous short green lawn.

It’s a possibility that it’ll be a hot one. Farmer’s Almanac is usually pretty good and they predict a hotter and wetter than normal summer in the south. The wetter part is troublesome because it messes up mowing and this place can get away from me so easily. The grass is so thick, it takes time to dry out so I can mow it.
And the more rain we get, the more it’s a sauna. Ugh!

Can’t say the lawn is gorgeous. I don’t rake leaves so there are leaf bits scattered everywhere. LOL I just want it short to discourage mice and rats from coming close to the house.
