Further details from Grok:

Mario Crawford, a 36-year-old Jacksonville man with at least 49 prior felony convictions (including armed burglary, weapons charges, and drug trafficking), was sentenced to 81 years in Florida state prison for orchestrating a drone-based smuggling operation into multiple Florida Department of Corrections facilities.

Key confirmed details:
He used modified commercial drones to drop packages containing drugs (such as cathinone/stimulants, cocaine, meth), cell phones, SIM cards, charging cords, tobacco, razors, and other contraband over prison fences/walls. The recovered contraband was valued at over $1.5 million in some reports.

Charges included introduction/possession of contraband at a state facility, conspiracy to do so, drug trafficking (over 10 grams of cathinone), illegal use of a drone, and using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
The scheme came to light after incidents like a crashed drone at facilities such as Century Correctional Institution or Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, with coordination involving inmates inside. Officials noted this highlights a shift in how contraband enters prisons—now increasingly via air over fences rather than just through traditional gates.

The sentence was secured by the Office of Statewide Prosecution and announced by AG Uthmeier (often styled as @AGJamesUthmeier on X) during a news conference at a prison facility around March 23–24, 2026. Crawford will serve it in the Florida Department of Corrections.

Looks like open air yards in prison are going to become a thing of the past. How else to guarantee drones can't get in?

“ Mario Crawford, a 36-year-old Jacksonville man with at least 49 prior felony convictions (including armed burglary, weapons charges, and drug trafficking)”

36 years old and 49 felony convictions, and he’s still committing them. He will never stop until he dies.

He is going to serve 89 years in jail. He’s 36.
Not likely to commit any more felonies unless in hell.

Why was he out of prison in the first place?

And the tax payers are having to support the criminal.
There ought to be a way to put this human destroyer
to sleep rather having to house/feed/doctor him for the
next untold number of years. Satan awaits his arrival.
