James Talarico [TX Senate Candidate] Delivers Sermon Against Christian Nationalism
YouTube ^ | 10/22/2023 | James Talarico

Posted on 03/24/2026 2:46:04 PM PDT by JeepersFreepers

(The following are transcribed highlights of a sermon given by Texas US Senate candidate James Talarico at the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX on 10/22/2023:)

There is a cancer on our religion. Until we confess the sin that is Christian Nationalism and exercise it from our churches, our religion can do a lot more damage than a six-pack of Lone Star. There is nothing Christian about Christian Nationalism. It is the worship of power, social power, economic power, political power in the name of Christ, economic power, political power in the name of Christ.

They've turned this humble rabbi [Jesus] into a gun-toting, gay-bashing, science-denying, money-loving, fear-mongering fascist, and it is incumbent upon all Christians to confront it and denounce it

Two years ago, Christian Nationalists stormed the U.S. Capitol, killing police officers while carrying crosses and signs reading, Jesus Saves.

Last year, Christian Nationalists on the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, allowing states like ours to outlaw abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

Two Christian Nationalist billionaires are trying to replace public schools in Texas with private Christian schooling.

The Bible doesn't mention abortion or gay marriage, but it goes on and on about forgiving debt, liberating the poor, and healing the sick Look around us.

If this was truly a Christian nation, we would forgive student debt. If this was truly a Christian nation, we would guarantee health care to every single person. If this was truly a Christian nation, we would love all of our LGBTQ neighbors. If this was truly a Christian nation, we would make sure every child in this state and in this country was housed, fed, clothed, educated, and insured. If this was truly a Christian nation, know the table of fellowship is open to everybody, including our Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and atheist neighbors.

The closest thing we have to the kingdom of heaven is a multiracial, multicultural democracy where power is truly shared among all people

God loves diversity. God loves variety. Just look around this big, beautiful planet of ours. Do we really think God would make all these beautiful people with all their beautiful traditions for no reason at all? There are so many pathways to the sacred.

God is not a being. God is being itself. God is love. And that's why Jesus is against anything that gets in the way of that love between neighbors, including religion.

Christian nationalists want to control what we read, who we marry, where we travel, when we have children. They want to control our minds and our bodies. Oh, ye of little faith.

The great faith traditions of the world have so much to offer us in this time of global crisis. Hinduism's ahimsa provides an alternative to the logic of violence. Buddhist meditation provides an alternative to the abuse of our attention. Judaism's Sabbath provides an alternative to the demands of capitalism. And in a world where everything can be bought and sold, including the earth itself, Native American traditions provide an alternative to ecological extraction.

(The following is a transcription of the introduction to his sermon. I put it last as it was less important but significant to further demonstrate his heresy:)

Reasons beer is better than religion. Number one, when you have beer, you don't knock on people's doors trying to give it away .Number two, there are laws against forcing beer on minors who can't think for themselves. Number three, nobody's ever been burned at the stake because of their favorite brand of beer. Number four, you don't have to wait more than 2,000 years for a second beer. And last, if you've devoted your life to beer, there are groups to help you

Talrico is the Democrat candidate running in TX for US Senate. He is a Mamdani type collectivist running under the cloak of Christianity through heretical misapplication of scripture. He is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He will be running against either Republican candidates John Cornyn or Ken Paxton, whichever one wins in the May runoff. Polls strongly favor Paxton.

Although Paxton has been an outstanding attorney general and would be an excellent replacement for RINO Cornyn, he has the bad publicity of being impeached. (He was acquitted of all charges.) There has been a lot of publicity about his divorce because of an affair.

I fear that Talrico has a real chance of winning in the general election. This would be a disaster. Please take a look at the over 17,000 favorable comments at the YouTube link. There are 107,000 thumbs up and no thumbs down.

Ted Cruz only won over the flakey Beto O'Rouke by only 2.6 points in the 2018 election.

I don’t see his message playing very well in Texas.

As much as Texas likes to pride itself on having strong election integrity measures in place, these are easily circumvented by the Democrat machine and election fraud still happens in this state on a widespread basis.

That is the ONLY reason that Beta Talarico has any chance of “winning” the senate seat.

His Marxist Christianity is disturbingly close to the fake Candace Owens/Carrie Prejean “Catholicism.”

There has been a lot of publicity about his divorce because of an affair.

That alone will cost Paxton the female vote, and the election. I despise him, but it must be Cornhole, or we have zero chance.

YouTube changed the way “likes” are expressed on videos several years ago. Thumbs down’s only decrease the the thumbs up, they don’t count the dislikes.

“Two years ago, Christian Nationalists stormed the U.S. Capitol, killing police officers...”

That right there, alone, disqualifies him from serious consideration.

Sadly, establishment RINOs would rather see a commie Dem in that seat than a conservative.

For those who might not know, “Christian nationalism” is a favorite boogeyman of the anti-Christian left. It relates to those women in red dresses and white bonnets who mysteriously appear at protest marches sometimes. I think. One can never be sure around these folk.

You’re propagandizing worse than Talarico right now.

Ted Cruz did not have a bad showing because he’s too conservative, as you want everybody to believe.

Ted Cruz had a terrible showing because his election contest against Donald Trump.

Ken Paxton has never tried to win an election for President against Donald Trump. Just so you hear me, I’ll say it again.

Ken Paxton has never tried to win an election for President against Donald Trump. So Paxton will do just fine.

I picked up (and put back down) Jimmy Carter’s book in a Barnes and Noble.

He argued that every disgusting left wing crime is a “Christian Virtue”. Abortion, illegals, etc.

Leftists are vile deluded scum they are NOT Christians.

This Texas fraud is preaching the bible of Karl Marx.

...it must be Cornhole, or we have zero chance.

I'm afraid not even that will work. We still have the stark disparity of a very old senator (74) up against a young, vibrant candidate (36) who spouts all of the PC rhetoric by the book. This plays very well with the shallow-minded voting populace of Millennials and Gen-Z's who tend to be much less biblically Christian and much more liberal/leftist.

One thing the left is correct about is that demographics is destiny.

We should just hand all of our elections over to the liberal media.

Why do we even try? Let’s just let the media pick all of our republicans and then we can get a pure senate comprised of nothing but Lisa Murkowskis. Sounds wonderful. Whatever the left wing journalists desire, our guys are determined to make it happen.

I am surprised he wasted all that well crafted rhetoric at Church in the form of a “sermon”-—I wd. expect to see bits and pieces of it appear in public addresses aimed directly at voters he’s still courting. He will definitely be tapped as one of bright new faces of the Dem Party-—there’s been NO shortage of talk about how the entire D Party has to find itself and put those new faces out there if they are to survive and extricate themselves from the toxic embrace of The Squad-—off the top of my head, those faces will include Newsom, Talarico, Ossof, Slotkin, etc. Interesting also how mock-erudite and “profound”-sounding all that clever and passably witty sermon is.

I don’t think he’s ever met a Christian.

He may know some people in the formerly Christian apostate denominations, but that’s not the same thing.

There has been a lot of publicity about his divorce because of an affair.

The left sure is inconsistent and hypocritical about people's sex lives based on their Party affiliation. What ever happened to "love is love," and their new increasing penchant for polyamory? I guess that doesn't work for Republicans.

I just noticed this is from 2 1/2 years ago! No wonder I couldn’t understand why he was wasting it on a sermon at Church.
