Oklahoma Gov. Stitt expected to appoint Alan Armstrong to Senate, sources tell News 9

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt is expected to appoint Alan Armstrong, chairman of Williams Companies, to the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Markwayne Mullin, according to sources familiar with the process.

The move comes as Mullin advances in the confirmation process to replace Kristi Noem as Department of Homeland Security under President Donald Trump. On Thursday, The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee advanced Sen. Mullin’s nomination in an 8 to 7 vote, setting up a vote before the full chamber as early as this week.

If appointed, Armstrong would serve until the next election, when Oklahoma voters would decide who completes the remainder of the term.

Two sources familiar with the decision tell News 9 Political Analyst Scott Mitchell that Armstrong is Stitt’s choice. News 9 has reached out to the governor’s chief of staff and has not received a response.

“Following the January 6 United States Capitol attack, Armstrong donated $5,800 to U.S. Representative from Illnois, Adam Kinzinger, who then voted to impeach Donald Trump.[6]

In August 2022, then-President Joe Biden appointed Armstrong to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council.[7]”

Key Takeaways

Gov. Kevin Stitt is expected to appoint Williams Companies chairman Alan Armstrong to an Oklahoma U.S. Senate seat, according to sources.

The appointment would follow Sen. Markwayne Mullin advancing toward a Homeland Security role under President Donald Trump.

Armstrong would serve temporarily until the next election determines who completes the term.

Armstrong brings decades of natural gas industry experience as federal energy policy debates intensify.

Political alignment and Republican ties:\

Armstrong is described as an energy executive with strong ties to Oklahoma’s Republican leadership. Governor Stitt, a Republican, is appointing him to fill the seat vacated by Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin. The appointment process involved political considerations, including potential reactions from former President Donald Trump, suggesting Armstrong operates within Republican political circles.

Anyone know if he is a Republican, and more importantly, is he a conservative that supports this nation over a political party? With Stitt, he may just as well appoint a Democrat, in my opinion based upon sme of the things I have read about him.

That’s a strange choice. I lived in Edmond, for two years, and I hoped Gov. Sitt would appoint former Governor Fallin.

The Oklahoma GOP had their chance with Shannon when ran against that paleface fella for the senate nomination and lost. Being black had to enter into it as paleface(don’t know his name) has been a disappointment at times.

He ran the same as every other Manchurian Candidate runs, and wins, in Oklahoma. They cowardly hide their colors and run as conservatives. Lankford is a classic example.

And OK cannot seem to get its act together and get rid of them.

I guess there's a reason that OK is 50th in the nation educationally. It's in their DNA. They're that stupid.
