David Spade is calling out California’s leadership for the collapse of Hollywood. During a recent episode of his podcast, “Fly on the Wall,” which he co-hosts with Dana Carvey, the 61-year-old actor and comedian said “the Hollywood industry is dying” and that he’s “just trying to put the blame somewhere.”
“Dude, I’m so old,” he said. “I was on the lot at, uh, CBS Radford when we were doing ‘Just Shoot Me’… And also they were doing ‘Seinfeld,’ and I’d see him on his bike.
“It was the greatest lot. Of course, just filed for bankruptcy, the lot. Terrifying in L.A. Thanks, [LA Mayor] Karen Bass. Thanks, [Gov.] Gavin [Newsom].”

Another late 80s/early 90s SNL member goes conservative.
If you were deliberately trying to destroy a city, I don’t know how you could do a better job than Bass and Newscum.
He says that like it's a bad thing.
Now he’s only a year away from qualifying for Socialist Security. He will have gone his entire life without working a day.
Check this out: 1997 Phil Hartman interview on immigration.
Now, this is all mixed with humor, but it's mixed with hard truths as well.
What a loss his murder was!
Newsom or Spade?
Yes, Andy Dick should be in prison.
The State of California and LA County have put toxic policies across the in place that make it all but impossible to produce a film in California in anything resmbilibf a timely and cost effective fashion - plus the level of government interference, usually enforced by hostile and obstructive government employees, throughout the process is a deal killer.
This does not effect the rich and famous established actors and high level production people but it is killing off the entire ecosystem of next tier down players.
It's gotten so bad that talented , non A lister of out work actors, out of work script writers and out of production people are banding together to contribute their labor completely on spec for a piece of the revenues if the film succeeds.
AI is soon going to revolutionize and democratize the film production process and awesome, custom designed and idealized AI generated actors is going to take big bite of the big ego a listers who support the politicians killing off their industry and who think that they are immune to consequences of the politics that they fund and promote.
Couldn't happen to a nicer group of people and In will not miss their infantile , embarrassing political posturing at places like the already irrelevant Oscars
Didn’t David Spade donate a bunch of money to the Phoenix PD so they could buy patrol rifles? I think that was quite a few years ago, so he’s probably been at least somewhat conservative for a while now.
I was talking about Spade but the same is true of Navin Newsom. Although he said he used to own a wine store. Strange that he never ment his stints working at a traveling carnival guessing people’s weight.
What a loss his murder was!
He’s right but only partially. Hollywood itself is largely responsible for its downfall. Put out garbage, leftist or otherwise and people stop watching.
Exactly right. My dad was in the restaurant business, had places in big cities from NY to CA.
He was ALWAYS talking about food quality:
“Put in manure, you get manure”.
Why don’t movie producers know this? Or maybe they just don’t care.
Nust look at the 2026 oscars. Theres you’re reason.
They should cancel the LA Olympics now the city can’t afford it.
They should move it to Texas. Hot and humid but that's why they can use NRG Stadium.
Might be infectious.
That's true but Hollywood existed as it was because it had a monopoly due to the sky-high costs of the cameras.
Once the digital cameras came out in the 2000s, the costs of maintaining an entire industry in Hollywood quickly made it non-competitive to every other location where television and movies could be shot.
The first major studio film shot mostly on digital video was Star Wars 'Attack of the Clones' in 2002.
The first winner of an Academy Award for Best Cinematography that was shot mostly on digital cameras was 'Slumdog Millionaire' in 2008.
The first winner of an Academy Award for Best Cinematography that was shot entirely on digital cameras was 'Avatar' in 2009.
Once digital took over, all the Hollywood studios, props, backlots, etc. all become non-competitive costs that would require blockbuster after blockbuster to pay for, and Hollywood never had that capability.
Digital cameras such as the Arri Alexa killed Hollywood.
