Ramadan brought a new political moment for New York City’s Muslims – and its first Muslim mayor

The offices of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance had people of all ages on Wednesday night waiting for the end of the nightly Ramadan fast, from children sitting at tables doing math homework to cab drivers just getting off their shifts.

Just before it was time to pray and eat, someone announced a special guest was coming to their iftar, the evening meal to break fast during Ramadan.

“I know who it is,” shouted a boy from the back of the room to laughter.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani soon entered and joined them.

So in 10 years, New York, you'll look like London.

You might want to do something about that.

New York has turned into an even bigger $hit hole than it already was. I was born in 1947. My Dad worked on the NY Central Railroad his whole life. We didn’t own a car, but we could ride the train for free. In the 50’s and mid-60’s, every so often, my parents would take us kids on the train to NY City at midnight on a Friday night. We’d get there the next morning for breakfast, walk around for a bit until we could check into the hotel, stay overnight, and ride the train back home the next day. It was a real treat for us. The city was a whole lot different back then.

EVERY DAY it seems Mamdani is hosting some outdoor Muslim “prayer ceremony” humiliation display for New York City.

I escaped New York exactly 50 years ago this year. I left and never looked back. Never even went back to visit. I grew up there, but hated it as a young adult. I can’t even imagine how bad it must be now. I’m sure the media doesn’t show the unvarnished truth.

I remember staying in the WTC hotel in the later 1980’s and early 1990s—before even the first WTC attack. I was attending scientific conferences.

I was always able to find good Mexican restaurants in the area, being originally from Arizona.

The muslims—aided and abetted by the clintons—ruined everything! Now NYC has a muslim mayor. Foobar!

Will it?

I expect there will be no official observance. But maybe someone ...

Once all the NYC gov’t, agencies & courts go Moslem....can they ever be dislodged??

Maybe, given Repubs controlling DC & DOJ. If Dems regain control, forget it.

What a great article! I look forward in a few weeks to a similar article fawning over Easter and the dinners many families have after church!

I looked around and didn’t see anyone here fighting back tears. Except for tears of rage.
