Elon Musk just made his BIGGEST announcement ever
X ^ | 03/22/2026 | Jacob Hilton

It's a ~24-minute video that primarily consists of a transcript/narration of a major speech by Elon Musk. In it, Musk announces a massive collaborative project between SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla to build what's called a "Terafab" — an unprecedented advanced chip fabrication facility (described as "the most epic chip building exercise in history").

Key points from the announcement: The goal is to produce 1 terawatt (1,000 gigawatts) of compute capacity per year, combined with terawatt-scale solar power — much of it deployed in space. This is framed as essential to advance humanity on the Kardashev scale (toward Type 1 civilization and beyond), capturing vastly more of the Sun's energy than Earth's current tiny fraction (~a trillionth).

Musk emphasizes building in space for advantages: constant sunlight (no night/weather), higher solar efficiency, no atmospheric interference, and avoiding Earth's land/power grid limits.

Starship is central — enabling massive payload delivery to orbit (targeting millions of tons/year) to deploy solar arrays and compute clusters in space. Two main chip types: One optimized for edge inference (e.g., in Tesla vehicles and Optimus humanoid robots — potentially billions of units/year).

Another ruggedized for space (radiation-hardened, runs hotter to reduce cooling/radiator needs). Space-based AI compute is projected to become cheaper than Earth-based within 2–3 years. The Terafab will be built in Austin, Texas (with Texas Governor support), consolidating logic, memory, lithography, packaging, and testing in one mega-facility for fast iteration — potentially pushing new physics in computing.

Broader vision: Leads to lunar-based compute (e.g., via electromagnetic mass drivers), abundance for all, multi-planetary/galactic civilization (Moon/Mars cities, populated solar system, easy interstellar travel), inspired by sci-fi like Star Trek, Iain M. Banks, Asimov, and Heinlein.

Musk contrasts this grand cosmic ambition with petty Earth conflicts, calling for focus on making science fiction real through AI, robotics, sustainable energy, and space expansion.

The video is presented as covering Musk's "biggest announcement ever," likely from a recent event or talk (possibly tied to xAI/Tesla/SpaceX updates around that time). The channel encourages joining for early access and links to the creator's X account (@jcubhilton). It's essentially a repackaged/voiced-over version of Musk's own words with enthusiastic commentary framing it as historic.

And while he’s at it...maybe ask him to figure out something to make the “Strait of Hormuz” a non-issue for transport...as far as new tech.

But we should have an alternative of yesterday even with current technology. Like I’ve said on other threads, unforeseen things can happen other than war or bad actors that cause a disruption - can’t have one single avenue transport be able to shut down the world economy if it gets disrupted.

“ easy interstellar travel”

Yeh, right.

TERAFAB: the next step to becoming a galactic civilization

Together with @Tesla & @xAI, we're building the largest chip manufacturing facility ever (1TW/year) – combining logic, memory & advanced packaging under one roof

Straits of Homus is not that important.
Plus Musk sells more EVs than anyone else in America cutting down the need for oil and gas for cars.

Katie Miller

It simply can't be overstated how important building a chip fab of this scale in the United States is for our national security.

More than 90% of the world's current production of chips are in Taiwan.

TERAFAB is vital to our national security interests.

All you gotta do is bend space-time around a vessel with people inside to cheat the universal lightspeed limit.

Stop being such a pessimist!

NFN but Elon Musk’s throwin’ off a bit of a Wizard of Oz vibe by this point.

It seems as if it won’t be long now, before drags the curtain back and everyone will know certain big ideas will not be matched with the necessary new technology. At least not during Musk’s lifetime. And some, such as interstellar travel, bloody well never.

This Guy further predicts that no humans will ever get beyond the moon or lunar orbit, except those one or more who may decide to take, shall we say, a one way trip.

All I get out of this is he’s building a new kind of chip he believes will advance our civilization.

Humans will go beyond the moon.
Both the US and China have had rovers on Mars for years.

He needs a healthy economy for those to be sold. Healthy economies with growing wealth lead to innovation.

“ easy interstellar travel”

Yeh, right.

"Nattering nabob of negativity."

In the early days of steam powered travel there were those who said you could never go over 25 MPH as all of the air would be sucked out of your lungs and you would die.
