After three weeks of war, the Trump administration has begun initial discussions on the next phase and what peace talks with Iran might look like, according to a U.S. official and a source with knowledge.

Why it matters: President Trump said Friday that he was considering "winding down" the war, though U.S. officials said the expectation was there would still be two to three additional weeks of fighting. In the meantime, Trump's advisers want to start laying groundwork for diplomacy.

It’s possible that if the Mullahs think the war will continue, they’ll flee. It would be best for them to remove themselves. I understand Trump doesn’t want to be a forever war president. But a bit of bluff would be good about now.

Of course, these statements by Trump may be pressuring the Kurds and other groups to increase pressure on the Mullahs. This may be their one and only chance to be rid of the theocracy. If Trump is looking pointedly at his watch and saying, “It’s now or never. I’m counting down.” Then they’ll likely pull out the stops and fully commit.

U.S wants Iran to make 6 commitments:

1. No missile program for 5 years
2.Zero uranium enrichment
3. Decommissioning of reactors at Natanz, Isfahan, Fordow
4. Strict outside observation around creation & use of centrifuges and related machinery
5.Arms control treaties with regional countries that includes a missile cap no higher than 1,000
6.No financing for proxies such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen, or Hamas in Gaza

Trump apparently sees demands for reparations as a non-starter

Trump said yesterday that he’s not opposed to talks, but he’s not interested at the moment

Iran knows that they’ll have to hold out until November then the war will end.

any agreement with the current Iranian dictatorship would only legitimize their terror and mass-slaughters. And would be worthless as the paper its written on. In brief, it would turn a victory into a big loser of an operation.

1. take control of the oil export depot (Kharg Island, miles offshore....and USAF has already eliminated its military defenses so it is ready. This will enable USA to control Iran’s main source of money ... and weapons.
2. Keep the Straight of Hormuz open for all shipping (except weapons into Iran). I do not favor involving other countries’ ships and especially not any from Communist China (!) ... but there’s room for some flexibility here.
3. No big invasion of USA army, it is simply unnecessary and did not work in Iraq or Afghanistan anyway.
4. deal when Iran achieves a new and peaceful government. It will happen as the evil current regime is dying on its last legs. Let victory happen...

They will never fully commit. They will Lie and pretend that they are for a short time, but then be back at it. That’s what they’ve done in the past, and they’ll do it again. If necessary, they’ll comply until Trump is out of office.
They have to GO.

Any outcome that doesn’t topple & replace the current dipshit funding regime makes this a lost war.

U.S wants Iran to make 6 commitments:

The U.S. wants?

Even Trump admits the terms for ending the war aren't entirely his.

Trump to Times of Israel: It’ll be a ‘mutual’ decision with Netanyahu regarding when Iran war ends.

We're doing most of the fighting, and most of the funding.

But Bibi has at least an equal say in when, and on what terms, it ends.

Remember the Vietnam War peace process?

“The 1968–1969 Paris peace talks stalled for months over the shape of the conference table, symbolizing deep political disputes. North Vietnam and the NLF (Viet Cong) wanted a round table for 4-party equality, while South Vietnam and the U.S. preferred a rectangular table to signify two sides. A compromise was reached on a circular table with no markings, separated by two small tables for secretaries.”
History.

Maybe take a tip from Mullah and His Round Table.

Yes, at which time thousands of anti-regime protesters will be slaughtered and the nuclear bomb projects will go up to full throttle.

Trump said yesterday that he’s not opposed to talks, but he’s not interested at the moment

Why does anyone assume Iran has any interest?

The Iranian foreign minister made it clear that both the US and Israel had sone suffering to do because of our attack on that country.

Why does anyone assume Iran has any interest?”

The minister of foreign affairs has asked for a ceasefire several times.

“according to a U.S. official and a source”

it’s nice that they’re claiming TWO fake independent anonymous “sources”, instead of just one fake independent anonymous “source”; that gives the fake rumor oh so much more credibility, right?

How in the hell does Axios have information on Trumps policies and or intentions? They do not and are simply blowing smoke out of their multiple asses which I must say is a foul odor.

When they show up for face to face talks Trump or his people should tell them: “You’re talking to the wrong person. This issue is now in the hands of Bibi. Thank you for your attention to this matter”.

All these lists of us requirements for end of the war.

Where are the lists of Iran requirements for end of the war?

They have actually publicly provided one, that being that the United States be sufficiently injured and humiliated.

It’s not clear how president Trump can provide them that.

In an overall sense, the Iranian requirements will be Shiite requirements and they will require enormous casualties on the part of Sunni countries, perhaps requiring American military to inflict those by bombing Riyadh and Doha and the various other Sunni focus points.

The important point being that there will be no end of the war unless Iran’s requirements are satisfied as fully as American requirements. President Trump cannot declare victory in send The fleets home because Iranian hit squads with sniper rifles will find their way into America and start killing people. There has to be an agreement.

Negotiating with the current powers won’t end well. People need to rise up now or they’ll lose their chance.
