Home Office border security chief quits after failing to bring down small boat crossings

Britain’s border security chief has quit after failing to bring down the number of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats.

The Home Office confirmed Martin Hewitt will leave his post as border security commander at the end of March after just 18 months in the job.

The Prime Minister appointed Mr Hewitt, a former senior Metropolitan Police officer, shortly after Labour won the general election.

He was tasked him with curbing the rising number of small boats landing on British shores from France.

But since he took on the roll in September 2024, crossings have surged, with almost 60,000 people making the journey in that time.

His tenure also saw the second-highest annual total of people crossing the Channel, with 41,472 people arriving in the UK by small boat last year.

More than 450 migrants have made the journey this week.

If Hitler had thought about invading England
with small boats, the world would be different!

What can stop this invasion?

The use of lethal force after warning.
Barbed wire on every possible landing area.
Cut off all benefits to illegals.

I’m sure Mr. Hewitt did not have authorization to do any of that.
So his was a hopeless task.

How can he do his job when the government of Starmer allows unlimited invasion and replacement?

Oddly it is not his fault but Parliaments fault as is ours in the USA.

One bill one law would solve it all. “If you are an illegal alien you will be deported immediately to your nation of origin. You are welcome to apply for entry from your nation of origin.” Secondly, if admitted you will receive no social benefits until and if you are a citizen with the exception of emergency medical care.

But most importantly and cruelly is an edict, that our rescue services will not assist you and you may die in your crossing. If you make it to the beach we will care for you and then deport you.

Starmer is a Twinkie. Great Britain is just Britain. There is nothing “Great” about that weak kneed shadow of itself.

Rather more than one bill, unfortunately. To do as you say would require the overturning of centuries of maritime and other law, including international conventions etc incorporated in British law. (Most of the latter were British initiated anyway)

Dealing legally with arrivals by sea is far more complex than with arrivals by land or air.

It's pointless personalising this to Starmer. The small boat situation has remained essentially unchanged under four Prime Ministers since it started after the pandemic.

Various British governments since WW2 have actively encouraged immigration, notably in the late 60s/early 70s, the early 2000s and immediately post-Brexit. Today, while the public focus is on the illegals, legal immigration still 20 times greater than illegal (in 2025 898,000 legal, 46,000 illegal).

No British government at any time, either actively or covertly, has encouraged illegal immigration. Cui bono? If any government wanted the numbers to increase, it could easily relax border controls, and all could arrive boringly, safely, without the attendant drama and publicity, let alone cost.

Failure to prevent is not actively to promote. What tends to be forgotten is that the small boats situation only arose because of the success of a previous British anti-illegal initiative. Before the pandemic, the favoured means of entry was stowing away, or being smuggled in container trucks heading for the Channel ferries. That stopped almost completely when Britain funded large-scale security improvements at the Calais truck terminal, and the people smugglers turned their attention to small boats instead.

I’m sure he’s not worried. His annual salary (£200,000 + nearly £100,000 in pension benefits) was a nice little top up on top of his military pension and his Metropolitain Police pension and his National Police Chiefs’ Council pension. One long list of woke political appointments and FAILS.

Not deport, Put catapults on every beach ( I can't spell tribuchet) and load every boat person into the bucket and fling them back the direction they came from.

cheap effective and it is kinder than count Dracula's solution for muslim invaders..

People seem to forget, the boats come to and from very specific locations, e.g. the Calais (France) area to Dover, England. It’s not as though they’re having to protect the entire coast of the UK.

So, I’m expected to believe that the UK Navy is incapable of intercepting a few boats, stopping them, get the people off the boat and onto the ship, and take them right back to France?

If they can’t then that is embarrassing. The more likely reason, it’s being allowed. Only an idiot would actually believe all these fighting-age-men, without women and children, are “refugees fleeing war”. When it is really fleeing war, you bring your women and children with you, when you’re GOING to war, you leave them behind.

These politicians are not this stupid, which means they know exactly what they’re doing and have another agenda - which is, likely, nothing more than selfish gain at the expense of their people...making them true traitors.

I know many in the UK that don’t understand how all this isn’t going to end up in a bloody civil war.

The invasion is a business. Why else are all the boats collected and then sent back?

Just keep the boats. Don’t return. Bankrupt the companies using them.
