Why Trump is obliterating one Iranian army but sparing another

It’s a tale of two Iran armies.

One, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is stacked with fierce loyalists and designed to guard the theocratic regime, with a force estimated to be 150,000 strong. They have been targeted in US and Israel attacks.

The other is the conventional Islamic Republic of Iran Army, called the Artesh, which numbers 350,000 and is designed to protect the nation’s borders and secure the Iranian homeland. And when the bombing stops, they might serve US interests as a force for change.

Now all they have to do is survive.

President Trump has alluded to the difference between them in his public comments — and the distinction is becoming evident in the targeting decisions of his War Department.

“The risk in attacking the Iranian army is that some people hope it will launch a coup of some sort against the Revolutionary Guards and put a new government in place,” warned Mark Cancian, a retired Marine colonel at the Center for Strategic International Studies.

He noted that if the regular army didn’t end up on the target list, it could signal that Trump would leave the force in place to counterbalance the IRGC.

“There is a whole set of civilian targets that have not been hit. For example, the lights are still on in Tehran,” he noted.

Because the other Iranian army is expected to represent the Iranian Republic and not the IRGC.

You boys at IRCG and mullahs over there in Iran catching the implication? Hope so.

Feels like the difference between the Wehrmacht and the SS. The enemy army is not necessarily a criminal gang. They could have some sort of future. But there may be a special military force which is inherently criminal and which needs to be eradicated. They cannot have a future.

Yes, exactly, and the Basij are the SA if the Night of Long Knives didn’t happen. They’re the street thugs that keep the populace in control.

They are just waiting for the green light, and I think they will get it soon. It looks like Pahlavi has the Artrsh and key police units in place.

I think the New Persia will begin in Amol, Iran, just Norteast of Tehran, on the coast of the Caspian Sea. Just a guess, but symbolicly, the first city to fall in 1979.

agreed.

I also predict an unconditional surrender that is near word for word what Germany signed coupled with the showmanship of a signing on a ship docked at Kharg island which will become a us military base.

The Wehrmacht never mutinied against the Nazi government as a whole, although some officers were involved in the bomb plot against Hitler in 1944, when it was evident that Germany was losing. The best scenario for the United States and Israel is for a mutiny of the Iranian Army. One difference is that mutiny on the part of the Wehrmacht would have been difficult when fighting the Soviets in the East and the Americans and British in the West in major combat. The Iranian Army is not engaged in combat currently.

For anyone who’s curious here’s the story of the Battle of Castle Itter. Wehrmacht and US soldiers fought together in a battle against an SS unit.

Thanks, didn’t know about that one. Love that there’s a Sabaton song about it. Love their Siege of Vienna song/video.

I agree. Trump is leaving the impression that he is about done, and lifted the sanctions. Which means he is about to unleash on them. He just brought in 2000 to 5000 Marines, and brought in A-10s and Apacchws. That doesn’t sound like he is giving up. My guess is that he will wither take over Kharg Island, and or the nuclear sites. Either way, the shit is about to hit the fan. In my humble opinion.

At the end of WWII a German army force teamed up with a US army force to protect a prison from an SS force. The SS knew the end of the war was imminent but they were so evil they just wanted to kill the unarmed prisoners.
