New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced on Thursday he will sign an executive order to create the Office of Community Safety (OCS), a step toward his vision of public safety that prioritizes support and prevention rather than policing and penalization.
The office, housed within the mayor’s office, will oversee multiple existing public safety programs and signify a major step in building out Mamdani's $1.1 billion Department of Community Safety.
The announcement comes after Mamdani pledged to revise the city's police response in non-criminal emergencies, including mental health crises.

By most accounts, NYC’s Police Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, is a competent and respected individual. And I suppose she has a deep love for her city.
But at what point will she draw the line, and threaten to resign?
This new office will of course be a tax-sluice to new “non-profits” staffed by former convicts employed as “violence interrupters,” police monitors and GOTV canvassers when the time comes.

when a few of these “safety officers” get stabbed, shot or bludgeoned to death, the whole scheme may have to be rethought.
You do not know WHAT you may walking into on a “domestic dispute” call. The police officer is at least armed.
