The U.S. military has accelerated the deployment of thousands of Marines and sailors to potentially help reinforce its troops fighting against Iran, officials tell Newsmax.
Three officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, say the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit are deploying ahead of schedule from the West Coast.
They are expected to sail through the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East region after the Navy was ordered to heighten its posture with additional fire power.
The Boxer Amphibious Ready Group includes the USS Boxer amphibious assault ship along with the USS Portland and USS Comstock amphibious transport dock ships.

Looks like we’ll invade.
I hope this is some sort of bluff, and not an escalation to put troops on the ground.
Trump is a smart guy. But so was MacArthur.
“Never get involved in a land war in Asia.”
- attributed to Gen. Douglas MacArthur
“Looks like we’ll invade.”
A couple of ARGs does not an invasion make. That would require positioning at least 5 Army divisions
But it’s clear the US is positioning for the option of an air/amphibious assault of some sort.
This might be the real deal.
We will know for sure once we hear reports of troops and vehicles being flown in by air.
Why are we discussing troop movements? People need to shut up about such things...unless it’s a head-fake.
In other words, an invasion
Russia has approximately 1,559 satellites in orbit as of mid-2025, ranking as the country with the second-highest number of satellites in space, largely driven by military and navigation (GLONASS) systems.
This turns the island into a protected forward operating platform right off the coast. Naval ships, helicopters, and even potential air operations could then operate from a position just 25 miles from Iranian targets, dramatically shortening ranges for Naval gunfire and shorter-range missiles, strike aircraft or drones launched from nearby carriers or the island itself. It enables patrols, minesweeping, or escort operations along the northern Gulf coast. It’s a siege and will deprive the regime of $ including their ability to pay their soldiers. Meanwhile the Israelis are degrading Irans naval assets and ports along the Caspian where Russia has been supplying them with weapons
“In other words, an invasion”
You would call the Maduro extrication and invasion?
If so, then there a lot of degrees of “invasion”.
Perhaps Hormuz Island and Qeshm? Off Banda Abbas.
Bandar Abbas proper has a port and an airport.
Once seized you could bring in a LOT of back-up and fast.
I wonder if we can launch operations from Turkey, Armenia, or Azerbaijan.
I thought I read yesterday that Israel struck Iranian ships in the Capian Sea.
After looking at a map, Russia can send aid to Iran through the Caspian Sea. I hope we are keeping an eye on that.
Exactly
"Would it make you feel any better, little girl, if they was pushed out of window?"
Still, the Boxer ARG is at least 5 weeks away...just departed San Diego.
The Persian Gulf is literally halfway around the world.
One option is the retrieval of the Iranian nuclear stockpile. Deployment of NBC assets would be an indicator.
They are heading to the UAE and Oman side of the Strait of Hormuz, IMO.
Besides seizing coastal and island strongholds I could envision a limited role for ground forces to target the Basij. Keep in mind that the Basij are a police force, not a military force, and yet they represent the biggest obstacle to regime change and to a peaceful end to the war that meets our security objectives.
Is that boots on the ground? Call it what you will. But it’s a much smarter use of ground forces than what we saw in Iraq, and less costly in American lives.
