Unlike the Kurds in 1991, the Iranians of 2026 will have a genuine chance to wrest their freedom because of five key reasons:
1. Iran’s army, navy, and — most importantly — air force have mostly been destroyed. (And whatever’s left will be blown to bits over the next few days.)
2. We have complete air supremacy over Iran and aren’t impeded by UN regulations that would prevent us from using it to blow Iranian planes, helicopters, and drones out of the sky, should they target protesters.
3. Instead of pushing Saddam’s army out of Kuwait, President Trump focused on annihilating the Iranian government, its military leaders, and its chain of command, degrading the Iranian armed forces at every level.
4. Donald Trump doesn’t give a damn about protecting a political coalition of prickly foreign nations — he just wants to win. Which means, our military’s hands won’t be tied by UN legalese.
5. We’ve learned from Iraq: The George H. W. Bush strategy doesn’t lead to regime change; it leads to mass deaths. It’s not sufficient just to encourage civilians to rebel and then hope for the best. The rebels also need air cover, weapons, and logistical support.

Except the 60 year olds, these people have never known freedom, only religious rules and power. They will need dome prodding.
Send in the American Influencers, lol.
One small mistake in the article: Iran’s regular Army has not been destroyed. In fact, it hasn’t been particularly targeted.
The IRGC (missiles and Army) and Basij (paramilitary counter-civilian enforcers — think the Nazi SA), the two mullah-run branches have been targeted.
Why spare the regular Army? So they can run the place and restore order. It is, by far, the least loyal group to the mullahs.

Actually, they knew this before Kennedy. Look what happened at the Bay of Pigs without the support.
Even people native to SWA have difficulty predicting how any group of people will respond to a specific set of conditions. The odds do not favor people with names like "Scott Pinsker."
We can wait a while longer, but we're not going to wait forever either. Personally, I don't think it's going to happen.

I imagine it’s not unlike the Wehrmacht vs The SS during WWII. Think Operation Valkyrie, at least as von Stauffenberg hoped it would have worked out.
Give them the guns and ammo to do it.
They've been told to lay low and wait. So far, they've had the discipline to do so. That's a good sign.
That's what I have been saying all along. Target them in their barracks, or wherever they are massed, with flechette bombs, napalm, whatever it takes.
“I imagine it’s not unlike the Wehrmacht vs The SS during WWII. “
I think that is exactly right
Artesh (regular army) = Wehrmacht
IRGC = SS
Basij = SA (if the Night of Long Knives didn’t happen)
What the “Iranian people” think or will do isn’t clear. Urbanites may rebel. Will the rest of the country, the rural masses, join them?
Do we have any stores of WW2 Liberator pistols on hand. This is what they were designed for.
I’m not sure I understand your post.
The Artesh (regular Army) is spared so they can restore order in the event of revolution.
There’s actually been a bit of fighting already between the IRGC and Artesh.
While no prizes, the Artesh leaders are generally not fanatics. Be a fine military dictatorship.
The less we care about fixing Iran and focus on exploiting it as an asset that faster Iran will fix itself. One of those many situations in life where being nice doesn't help or being helpful doesn't make it nice.
Maybe the Iranian people are our friends maybe not - but its up to them to prove it - otherwise we will blow their shit up and Iran (Iranians) can't have nice things.
Game time Persians lets see what you've got. President Trump has given you everything you could ever have dreamed of - its payback time
I think you are forgetting the Former Shah’s son.
“ They’ve been told to lay low and wait. So far, they’ve had the discipline to do so.”
Never trust a traitor.
Kennedy chickened out.
I KNOW! This is now a stupid tRUMP forever war that can't win.
There. I translated your comment for you. Your welcome.
