A U.S. Justice Department attorney and senior supervisors for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have told a federal judge that names and biometric information about Mainers who observed and filmed federal agents carrying out an illegal immigration crackdown in January have not been entered into DHS databases.

Why not? Interference in federal law enforcement is a crime. What was done with the collected information?

I know I’m mixing agencies here, but it is my understanding that the FBI lies to people all the time. It is OK for the FBI to lie to you. But it is illegal for you to lie to the FBI.

So, here we have ICE saying, “We will put your info in our database” which appears to have been a lie. The info was not put into a database. So the ICE agent told an untruth.

Is it now illegal for government agents to lie to the public? Frankly, I would like that. But I doubt it. The government tells lies all the time. I don’t see why DHS should be in court for this.

I think I will also add that the crowd on J6 was exercising their First Amendment rights. And it seems that a great many people in attendance that day were “put into a database”. This sort of thing is either OK, or not OK. But it seems like Democrats can do things that Republicans cannot do.

Maybe those were only watching, not yet interfering? ICE should have arrest powers over the ones who actually interfere with enforcement operations.

ICE should start faking them out with fake operations, to free up the real ones.

“Defendants unlawfully weaponized surveillance tools.”

Quite an interesting comment for the plaintiff attorney to make as that is the crime their clients were engaged in.

“Maybe those were only watching, not yet interfering?”

The information collected can be used for interference. For example a live stream provides information to the targets of the federal enforcement action.

The investigation would be taking place whether they went into a database or not. The statement will be manipulated by the left to serve what ever antiTrump nonsense they can make up. Its either… fascists tracking innocent Americans or fascists lying to the public about doing it.

Simply being present and filming does not interfere.
Being put in a government databases is forever and there is no control or oversight on the use of the data.

“Simply being present and filming does not interfere.”

Correct. However, what is done with the filming is another matter. Even live streaming can constitute interference by informing the targets of federal law enforcement action. This can even endanger the lives of law enforcement officers.

Just calling an activity “protected speech” doesn’t make it so.

ICE already does that. Friends, family, off-duty LEOs,etc will drive around a neighborhood looking like ICE agents and the “watchers” will follow them. This allows the real ICE agents free to do their job. I watched a video of one or two of those “games” and it was pretty funny.
