A Republican has won a special election for the Virginia House of Delegates with an overperformace bucking a recent trend of Democrats making gains in GOP-held seats, according to unofficial results.
As of 1am E.T., Andrew Rice had secured 62.46 percent of the vote in the election for House District 98 compared to Democrat Cheryl Smith’s 37.5 percent with more than 11,000 votes counted. When an election was last held for the seat in 2025, Republican Barry Knight secured 56.6 percent of the vote to Smith’s 43.2 percent.
The seat became vacant after Knight died last month, leading to a special election to cover the last two years of his term. Although the seat has long been held by a Republican, the overperformance goes against a wave of Democrats flipping GOP-held seats during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Democrat Cheryl Smith
PRO-ABORTION
LGBTQ+ Support: Her campaign is officially
endorsed by the LGBT+ Democrats of Virginia.
Cheryl Bubeck Smith, a Democrat running for the Virginia House of Delegates in District 98, supports transgender rights, specifically advocating for access to gender-affirming care for transgender children.
Cheryl Bubeck Smith IS A:
1) Baby Killing DEMOCRAT
2) LGBTQ+ Advocate DEMOCRAT
3) “Transgender” Supporting DEMOCRAT
4) Gay Marriage DEMOCRAT
5) Child “TRANSGENDER” Mutilation DEMOCRAT
So do I.
One picture says it all.
VA Beach - large number of military and gun owners - the new gun restrictions in VA could push the state back to red - hopefully this was the ‘canary’
Maybe we should’ve ran a guy who looks like him for governor?
Finally!
little buzzes started last week with the local office flips in FL, turnout is all that matters. The hive is starting to buzz.
Flips to what party?
Congrats. I guess. I didn’t follow this election, so I know nothing about it. The winner may be a good candidate. Not every conservative is evil. Not every liberal is evil.
He looks like Yano Anaya.
