The Trump administration's top counterterrorism official Joe Kent announced his resignation Tuesday over opposition to the Iran war, becoming the highest-profile administration official to step down publicly over the conflict.
In a resignation letter posted publicly on social media, Kent said he could not "in good conscience" support the war, which is now in its third week.
"Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby," Kent, who served as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, wrote in his resignation letter.
*** ABC News has reached out to the White House and several Israeli officials for comment.
*** In his resignation letter, Kent wrote, "As a veteran who deployed to combat 11 times and as a Gold Star husband who lost my beloved wife Shannon in a war manufactured by Israel, I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives."

Why make it public?
I think Bush said the same thing on Sept 10 several decades ago.
Well this is bad news, who is going to leak to the NYT??🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Que the chorus of people besmirching his character, calling him names, challenging his motives, etc... and never once taking on his claims.
Too bad. I liked his when he ran for congress. I guess nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles are no threat anymore.
Because he believes we were manipulated into a war by Israel and the domestic Jewish lobby. If you left a long career over that, you’d want others to know your reasons.
He did it the honorable way. Much better than the ones who stay and sabotage. That’s what progressives do.
<< : ‘No imminent threat’ >>
Not anymore. A fact which seems to have triggered him.
“No imminent threat”
He got the memo.....I’ve been hearing that talking point for 10 days now from dipocrats and lib media propaganda outlets.
pressuree from Tucker, who gave him name recognition?
I’m tempted to admire his background- but this guy’s resume screams CIA DEEP STATE. Even his wife was a CIA operative.
The DC swamp is already full of such creatures, and now they have spread their tentacles into Congress and State politics.
Virginia Government, for example, is chock full of them.
His history is CIA.
Lunatics with nukes.
No imminent threat?
I’ll trust the guy we hired to decide.
Bizarro World with this...
.
Me thinks more to the story.
The evidence indicates that he’s wrong. He went off the rails.
Because he's another controlled, CIA, deep-state Eugene Vindman-type character, looking for a leg-up in his next Democrat election?
Just a guess after a quick look at his (and his wife's) resume.
For 47 years Iran has been “no imminent threat” to the “intelligence community”, yet every president, Dim or GOP, has recognized it is an ongoing and long term threat that the more it festers the worse threat it became. It was time to end the “intelligence community” fiction about Iran.
I don't know this Kent guy at all, but his resignation may be the strongest indicator that he's not a "CIA Deep State" operative.
But Iran was two weeks away from having enough nuclear material for a bomb.
I know that is true because I read it on the internet.
Why “take on his claims”? It was all opinion. Bloviating
