Denver International Airport pleads for gift card donations to cover TSA agents pay during government shutdown
NYPost ^ | March 13, 2026 | Allison Lax

The Denver International Airport (DEN) has taken to X to ask the public to fork over gift cards to TSA workers amidst the federal government shutdown, which has been tied to a fight over funding in the Department of Homeland Security.

As the shutdown (which began on February 14) bleeds into another week, airport security staff are not getting paid — though according to Reuters, around 50 have continued to toil away anyway.

The March 11 post reads, “! DONATIONS NEEDED ! Support the dedicated TSA employees working without pay by donating $10 and $20 grocery store and gas gift cards. Visa gift cards cannot be accepted. Drop off locations can be found at the Final Approach cell phone lot and in the Jeppesen Terminal.”

No donations to accommodate Democrat obfuscation after taxation.

HA! Let those pricks suffer. Some of the most obnoxious people ever, and one of the most abusive work environments ever. I naively joined thinking I’d do some good for the world — and from day one, I was constantly reprimanded for being too polite and too friendly to the travelers.

When I explained to the higher ups that the US Tax Payers are OUR BOSSES I was threatened with demotion, getting fired, etc.

It was awful. The thing is... I got more people to comply with being human and friendly than when the agents were rude and abusive.

I would just give them a card with the numbers of their Democrat overlords.

They want us to pay to be harassed and fondled? Those idiots do nothing to enhance security!

Thanks for your part. The travel experience is night and day between when the tsa started and today. We flew out of ohare soon after the tsa started operations. Horribly rude people. The worst. Our last flight to Hawaii last fall was diametrically better. Agents were polite and responsive to questions and concerns.

Having traveled a great deal, since the creation of TSA, I have regularly requested a "pat down" each and every time. At first, the "agents" made it seem almost criminal to do so. Agents hollered loudly "Opt out!" The last time, the reaction from the TSA guy was, "why?" But they had a certain numbers of friskings to do and I've bristled at seeing a grandma or mother with a young one being culled for such an "investigation." Especially since I flew once with an LEO, who had some cartridges with him that he'd forgotten about at the bottom of his carry on which he found in flight, and the TSA missed them. He reported that upon arrival, which was most commendable. I went along as support for him, and gave my name as part of the report.

The TSA is a long running and expensive show, so do I view it.

Moreover, the TSA is now a part of The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) .

And when they get their delayed paychecks, which they will, will they pay the donors back?

And how about the DHS contractors? Nobodies going to pay the wages they lost.

At three southern airports they are calling in sick even though they will eventually get paid. Huge lines at security.

I too have noticed it has improved in recent years. Also whenever someone is rifling inside one of my bags that contain food or medicine I request they put on fresh gloves which so far they have always complied.

“And how about the DHS contractors? Nobodies going to pay the wages they lost.”

Just about every contractor is still getting paid. Their firms usually get a year’s money up front front for personnel. Contract deliveries of supplies etc however are likely on hold until the shutdown is over.

How about calling your dem reps and DEMAND they pass the friggin’ bill. Of course, when I contacted my two useless senators about this issue, I got some long drawn out spiel about the schelpsteen files from one of them(?). Sorta like they don’t care what I want since neither are up for selection in the midterms this time.

Pathetic.

Beijing airport used female pat down agents. Going through security it only took a quick peak to “check out” the pat down girl. Many times I would leave my hat on, or keep a roll of lifesavers in my pocket to spur a pat down. These were 30 second, full body, massages.

I was not alone. There was usually a line of crewmembers waiting.

With the TSA……NO WAY!

The security force isn’t being paid, but they accept donations. That’s not a recipe for a disaster at all. Think about it, if you give the right donation, maybe they look the other way.

Time to privatize airport security. I’m sure there’s as much fraud in The TSA as there is in any government bureaucracy that the private sector can minimize
. As long as they are not allowed to Unionize. Yes, that will probably make it more expensive to fly but why should those of us who almost never fly have to pay for those who do?
