Khamenei's ability to govern questioned after injuries U.S. strikes target Iran's missile, drone capabilities Hegseth vows no mercy, reshapes military justice system Iranian drones reported in Kuwait, Iraq, UAE, Bahrain, Oman Six U.S. service members die in Iraq aircraft crash WASHINGTON, March 13 (Reuters) - Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is wounded ‌and likely disfigured, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Friday, questioning Khamenei's ability to govern after nearly two weeks of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran. No images have been released of Khamenei since an Israeli strike at the start of the war that killed much of his family, including his father and wife. The Reuters Iran Briefing newsletter keeps you informed with the latest developments and analysis of the Iran war. His first comments came in a statement read out by a television presenter on Thursday. In the statement, he vowed to keep the Strait of Hormuz shut and called on neighboring countries to close U.S. bases on their territory or risk Iran targeting them.

"We know the new so-called not so supreme leader is wounded and likely disfigured. He put out a statement yesterday. A weak one, actually, but there was no voice and there was no video. It was a written statement," Hegseth told a briefing. "Iran has plenty of cameras and plenty of voice recorders. Why a written statement? I think you know why. His father - dead. He's scared, he's injured, he's on the run and he lacks legitimacy." An Iranian official told Reuters on Wednesday that the newly appointed supreme leader was lightly injured but was continuing to operate, after state television described him as war-wounded.

Sorry, but this is not a traditional part of war, and I don't think it is a good idea. They can now freely attack US or Israeli leaders.

May be good news. In regard to Iran sometimes short term pain is needed to make things better longer term.

NeverTrumpers have to NeverTrump. You must have liked the way Iran was and just send them pallets of cash hoping they don’t close the strait.

Never was with Islam. They fight wars with plain clothes mostly, not military uniform. Proxy wars.

“Iran’s new supreme leader wounded, likely disfigured, Hegseth says”

So disappointing...they were supposed to kill him.

LOL.

As opposed to the attempted assignation of President Trump by Iran where a hired assassin went to prison last week?

Ugly and has a small, defective, penis that needs a pump.

No wonder he’s pissed.

What’s up with tyrants and defective male bits? Both Hitler and Mussolini had one testicle.

I think they already did try to kill one of our leaders. But like Trump said, we got to them first. But I do agree that there needs to be less braggadocio about everything.

Keep bombing until we get too low on our munitions reserves or Iran runs out of potential leaders.

We’re in the early innings of this campaign.

There’s no real gentleman’s agreement not to kill leaders.

The American Overmountain men demonstrated that in the Carolinas by picking off British officers with their squirrel guns.

If we could have offed Lenin, Stalin and Hitler before they got too far, should we have?

The question answers itself.

Who do you think had assassinated Anwar Sadat in ‘81?
Iran most likely.
