Sightings of an unmanned aerial system over Barksdale Air Force Base (BAFB) early on Monday morning resulted in a shelter-in-place order, prompting officials to temporarily raise the threat level at the facility.

For a short period, the base’s Force Protection Condition level was temporarily raised to FPCON Charlie, indicating an incident potentially indicative of a form of terrorist activity targeting U.S. personnel or facilities.

Text message alerts were sent out regarding the incident shortly before statements were shared on social media, directing base personnel at BAFB to take shelter.

Postings on social media shortly thereafter indicated that the threat level had been lowered again, although no additional information on what had prompted the declaration was provided at that time.

Following Monday morning’s developments, The Debrief reached out to Barksdale Air Force Base public affairs for comment on the situation.

“Earlier this morning, Barksdale Air Force Base received a report of an unmanned aerial system operating over the installation,” said Capt. Hunter Rininger, Chief of Public Affairs at BAFB, in a statement provided to The Debrief.

Rininger said Monday’s incident is still under investigation, with assistance from local authorities. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had also reportedly been notified and is working in coordination with Air Force officials as that investigation continues.

Those darned drones that don’t exist, or so I’ve been told.

Heheh. Or just “private research operations approved by the FAA.”

Here we are in a war with muslim religious fanatics, with the possibility of sleeper cell activation, and the military is still not allowed to shoot down drones over its bases, rather they are forced to run and hide ie “shelter in place”.

“Shelter in place”…….are you kidding me?
An Air Force Base? Not a call to arms?

If they start ripping off 20mm C-RAM at 4000 rounds per minute what goes up must come down. While the shells do have a self destruct feature it has a 1-5% failure rate in that fusing function you will always have live rounds coming down range. I don’t think Shreveport or Bossier City would like to be rained on with 20 mm high explosive shells. Any kill is going to have to be a soft kill with a HPMW(high powered microwave weapon) or a laser even then if the drone is armed it will detonate on impact with the ground. We are at war so casualties are to be expected.

The other option is something like this. Hit to kill anti drone drone. Would need to be on a automated launcher with multiple launcher tubes.

This but scaled up to 10-20 per launcher pedestal with radar and FLIR for detection and targeting.

Something like this for smaller FPV or scale it up with a Bushmaster 30mm and air burst programmable rounds. That expands your AO out to 4000 meters or so. Again you habe falling rounds with MG based systems and any failed to self destruct 30mm come down with hand grenade level lethality that’s 10-30 meter death radius on impact.

China is using the barrage approach they don’t care about falling debris.

You need to watch some videos from Ukraine, You do not want to be outside trying to shoot down a 100+ mph FPV drone with what an M4. It’s nearly impossible you can spend all day watching Russians and Ukraines firing fully automatic AKs and PKMs at FPV and getting blown up real good. You need dedicated anti drone munitions, pray and spray simply doesn’t work.

“The first round probability of hit is zero” - British Army

Israel has a computer guided optics that integrates to a rifle system it’s expensive and you have to have a specially built rifle lower and trigger group for it, so not plug and play it’s a major overhaul. Here again you have visual detection, tracking and engage of a drone that is small and doing 100+ mph some FPV drones the racing kind now being used in Ukraine can hit 350 mph no way a human tracks that you need Doppler radar and anti drone drones.

This system is to give the individual soldier a last chance to save their own life when a drone is seeking them out not provide a security function for PSO ops.

The AF needs to field lasers and hit to kill anti UAS systems post haste

1.5KW lasers are so cheap Slavs can mount them in the back of minivans...

Impressive spot beam. It would burn through a drone in seconds , as pointed out problem is tracking and engagement of fast moving targets.

Plus these power levels will blind anyone who gets a glint or reflection off it for miles around without special protective goggles. Even in the IR spectrum your cornea lets enough light in to burn your retinas out in under a second. This is one of the main reasons we don’t field laser hard kill in the homeland. Our troops have laser safe glasses and goggles the good people of Shreveport do not.

This is the level of sophistication you need even for small FPV drones.

Radar, EO, and fast computer algorithms humans cannot keep up with a rapidly crossing target.

To drop a Shahed sized drone at 1000-5000+ feet you need real SAMs like a multi million dollar PAC3 or a $400K Stinger from a AN/TWQ-1 Avenger Air Defense System or the armored M6 Linebacker stingers are a poor replacement for sidewinders, we don’t field the sidewinder based M48 Chaparral and the Vulcan 20mm based M163 VADS both in the 1990s we didn’t think anyone would dare try to fly into airspace the mighty Air Force had dominance in. They were wrong so bloody wrong.
