Every few years, Washington rediscovers fraud. A viral clip of someone misusing food stamps. A headline about child care providers in Minnesota. A politician promising to crack down on “fraud and abuse.” The ritual is familiar. And the response is always the same: more paperwork, more surveillance, more hoops to jump through for people who are already struggling.

Sara Sternberg Greene is a professor of law at Duke University School of Law and is an expert in poverty law and inequality.
And an out of touch with the American working folks inhabitant of the university ivory tower society.

Sara Sternberg Greene — want to guess that she was born and raised in New York City?

The very best thing for the “poor” is having to work their asses off for a fair wage or a semi-decent living. Any other attempt to “help” the able-bodied poor ends up feeding their human, self-destructive tendencies. I’ve employed the poor for forty five years now - I’m more convinced of this than ever

I thought LBJ’s “War on Poverty” had been ongoing these last 50 some-odd years.

No, fraud is a war on the poor.

Sara Sternberg Greene is more than welcome to take money from her own pocket and spend it on “the poor”.

Since Sara Sternberg Greene is a professor of law at Duke University School of Law and is an "expert in poverty law and inequality", it would be interesting to see how much tuition she paid for students to help them learn about "poverty law" and how to gain "equality".
Let students sit in her classes for free. It's not fraud, it's "fighting the war on the poor".

Fraud-waste-abuse and the criminals who use it in their trade are destructive to any civilization.

If you want free stuff provided by the labor of people other than yourself, then you’ve got no grounds to whine about paperwork.
To: Harmless Teddy Bear
I just turned someone in for 4 plus years of Medicaid fraud. They’ve been working the whole time.

When I'm asked to help "the poor" with money, my number one rule is "how can I provide a hand up, instead of a hand out." Most of the poverty programs I see are of the latter kind. Very little effort on the part of the recipient needed, and the benefit lasts but an instant.
It's like that old saw: "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats forever."
