Former Major League Baseball star Mark Teixeira has clinched the Republican primary to succeed GOP Rep. Chip Roy in southwest Texas.
Teixeira secured more than 61% of the vote, avoiding a runoff in the 12-candidate primary field.
Teixeira announced his candidacy for the Lone Star State’s 21st Congressional District seat last August. The seat is currently held by Roy, who has said he is running for Texas attorney general.
The announcement of Teixeira’s campaign came days after Republican state lawmakers approved a redistricting map aimed at strengthening the GOP’s position in the 2026 election.

Thank you very much and God bless you,

He always had the name.
As a Cubs fan, I often wonder what could have been.
Tex blew out his ankle early in 2001 and missed most of his senior year (or maybe junior? I forget).
People assumed Joe Mauer - local kid and sure, that worked out really well - would go 1 to the Twins.... and the Cubs were thought to be deciding between Prior and Teixeira. Tex got hurt, Prior had a banner year so it was a no brainer, I guess.
But... I always wonder. If Teixeira had had a full year - and performed as perfectly acceptable and expected?
Pitchers will break your heart - Prior did, even though he was a demigod for a season... but hitters just hit.
I live in the rural NW part of that district, 50 miles North and West of SA. This is a mostly rural district-in NW Central Texas-NOT South Texas. Someone needs to look at a map...
Oops-”West Central Texas”, but Northwest of SA...
The heavenly Hill Country I believe.
Career .268 hitter with an OBP of .360.
Good for him! Originally from Severna Park, MD, but there’s no way he’s getting elected as a Republican in Maryland.
Good
Is he (will he be) a true conservative? Or end up as a disguised RINO?
Only time will tell-he does not appear to be a RINO now, from all I’ve heard. The best rep this area had, in my opinion was Lamar Smith-he really understood and cared about working class country people and our concerns. Chip Roy-not so much...
And we want to keep it that way...
Chip Roy’s seat, I believe.
Not Hall of Fame, but very good.
