Further to yesterday's column, a third American is dead at the hands of the "Austin man" from Senegal.
Day Four began with President Trump's midnight post on Truth Social:
The United States Munitions Stockpiles have, at the medium and upper medium grade, never been higher or better - As was stated to me today, we have a virtually unlimited supply of these weapons. Wars can be fought "forever," and very successfully, using just these supplies (which are better than other countries finest arms!)... The United States is stocked, and ready to WIN, BIG!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
"Wars can be fought 'forever'"?
Is Lindsey Graham now Trump's ghost-tweeter?
We know you have great weapons - because the Taliban at this very moment is using the ones Thoroughly Modern Milley et al left them in order to attack Pakistan (whose rise to nuclear status the entire money-no-object "intelligence community" managed to miss). The real question this last three-quarters-of-a-century is whether Washington is capable of using these great weapons to advance any even modest strategic goals in the national interest. Even Mollie Hemingway's generally admirable Federalist seems entirely uninterested in the subject. So we have a "free world" comprised of a bunch of Europussies (to take the Federalist framing) plus a superbutch boy who can blow things up but not to any purpose. Ask the six most photogenic moppets in Kabul. Oh, wait; you can't.

A cynical Mark Steyn....
Omygosh!!! Four days??? Will this war NEVER end? Sheesh.
This article is a lesson in how you need to step back and present an argument in a way that everyone understands it. Steyn gets way too caught up in his idiosyncratic style in how he writes. Other commentators do the same thing. They have pet names for certain people or ways of describing events that they use and when they pile them on top of each other, a reader who is not in tune with them loses the connection with what the author is trying to say. Its an example of where a blogger would benefit from an editor.
“Forever War” is:
1) the title of a moderately interesting science fiction book written by Joe Haldeman.
2) a propaganda term the enemies of these United States use to throw verbal turds at us.
It appears that Mr. Steyn is suffering from PMS.
Trump trolled the Forever War pansies a couple of days ago.
Steyn is a smart guy. He realizes that the mullahs are just the frontmen. The Iranian regime is controlled by tens of thousands insiders that control the levers of power , the money and the goons. They have been barely touched, are going nowhere and will not be easily uprooted. It will take boots on the ground and a long hard ,bloody fight. Easy to get involved in these alien cesspools. Hard to extract.
bttt
They have been barely touched, are going nowhere and will not be easily uprooted.
If they were all in Iran the job would be easy...
Notice the that when the hard decisions were made they were nowhere to be found but now they want in and will be expecting a slice of the pie and will want yo put their two cents in on how the aftermath is handled.
The same ones calling for restraint now will be the same ones horrified when the Iranian people demand justice and retrobution from their oppressors.
Bye Felicia.π€‘
Trump πΊπΈπ
Everyone expects a resolution now. This is what society has evolved to.
Imagine if this was World War 2 or any other war that took a long time. People today would freak out.
Sometime it takes awhile.

From the article ...... “I have huge personal admiration for Pete Hegseth, but I am sceptical that one man in twelve months can change the wholly corrupt, dysfunctional and self-serving culture of a military bureaucracy” I believe that Mark is correct in that assessment.
I’m not sure where Mr. Steyn is opining from, but if he’s in the U.S., he’s welcome to “unass the A.O.” at his earliest convenience.
I read that book decades ago. I still remember many details. That does not happen with an only moderately interesting book! I truly enjoyed that novel!
I also read it decades ago ... it was interesting, but I’ve never been tempted to pick it up again. That makes it only moderately interesting.
