Last week, FBI Director Kash Patel fired a dozen agents who worked on the case investigating Donald Trump for taking top-secret materials to his Mar-a-Lago residence after his first term was over.
Those agents have now been revealed to be part of an elite group specializing in assessing threats from Iran, according to two reports.
Multiple sources with knowledge of the personnel move told the New York Sun and confirmed to MS Now that the layoffs impacted the counterespionage group tasked with investigating threats from foreign adversaries out of Iran just days before the US bombed its leaders.
Trump green-lit Operation Epic Fury, sending US forces to join Israel in raining down bombs on Iran in strikes that killed its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday.
The FBI's global espionage unit known as CI-12 includes spy operations with special forces in Cuba, Iran, and other proxy nations, as well as other terror organizations.
Patel told Fox News that the agents were spying on him and now-Chief of Staff Susie Wiles while they were private citizens as part of former Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into Trump.
The subpoena for Patel and Wiles' phone records was filed in the FBI databases in a way that made it difficult for the new FBI leadership to access once they took over last year.
The firings could reportedly impact investigations into retaliatory attacks from Iran after Trump approved the latest strikes and plunged the US into conflict with the Middle Eastern nation.
In his first presidency, US strikes in Iran were followed up with Iranian operations on US soil – including attempts to assassinate Trump and his aides.
CI-12 has helped uncover numerous counterintelligence threats involving Iran and other foreign governments – though there is a separate group that handles Russia China threats.

They don’t seem to be needed at any rate.
Why weren’t they investigating Iran?
Sounds like a bunch of corrupt cops.
good riddance
Boo hoo. They can learn to code.
The same FBI agents who were spying on numerous Republicans a few years ago? We’ll get by fine without them.
“Donald Trump for taking top-secret materials to his Mar-a-Lago residence “
Did they forget something? Like the facts (1) It was his prerogative, and (2) the materials were 100% secure.
So under Biden they took the most “Democratic Socialist” partisan loyalist agents and put them on 1) screw Trump and 2 ) “protect us from Iranian spies and assassins” like the ones out to kill Trump.
And relieving them is a bad idea?
The boys and girls should be thanking their lucky stars.
I’m remember when the penalty for TREASON was a lot greater than losing your job.
I guess a Brit Tabloid can get a few clicks writing a sob story for traitors.
“Those agents have now been revealed to be part of an elite group specializing in assessing threats from Iran, according to two reports. “
Obviously they suck at their job considering what’s been going on the past 5 years...
.
“””Did they forget something? Like the facts (1) It was his prerogative, and (2) the materials were 100% secure.””””
It appears they never heard of the Presidential Records Act.
LOL why was the elite Iran threat evaluating group of Agents involved in investigating a president taking his own documents it’s absurd.
Your Trump-hating agents were exposed and fired.
They should have faced a firing squad.
Good! They can’t be trusted. Who knows but what their job was to IGNORE or even encourage terrorism?
And Melania's underwear drawer.
Of ‘course’ the people who happily raided Melania’s panties just happen to be the only ones, Top Men, who could stop Iran’s sleeper cells.
Anonymous sources say, and they have a 100% track record on Trump.
(100% fictitious...)
Cleaning out the potential leakers before the action was, probably, an excellent idea...
