The gunman who opened fire outside a crowded Texas bar and killed three people in an attack that wounded more than a dozen had not been on the radar of authorities, federal and local investigators said Monday.
The FBI and police in Austin said it’s too soon to identify the motive behind the mass shooting early Sunday that the FBI has said is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism, coming after the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran.
“Our ultimate goal in everything we do is to determine the motive,” Alex Doran, the acting agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio office, said during a news conference.

But was the shooter on Nick Shirley's radar for defrauding the government.
What was the shooter's job and other background information about him?
That’s worse than having been on their radar and doing nothing about it.
But all the J6ers are on the radar....
Have they found a motive yet? Good news is they are still tracking those dangerous Grandmas at schoolboard meetings.
If you squint between the lines, you can see that the point of the article is:
“Donald Trump caused this horrible tragedy because Trump’s illegal and misguided attacks on Iran radicalized this poor Islamic terrorist and caused him to murder innocent people. He wasn’t on the radar because he was a good boy — until Saturday night, when he just couldn’t take it anymore.”
The only surprise is that the AP doesn’t just come right out and say it. Nuance isn’t normally their “thing” because their target audience isn’t intelligent enough to detect it.
Yeah, but does anybody know his name or what he was wearing?
Just a local thug up until now.
That just means he wasn’t on their payroll. This was a freebee.
“Ndiaga Diagne ... was wearing clothes with an Iranian flag design and bearing the words “Property of Allah” during the attack.”
motive: a total mystery and completely unknown ...
You must be from Canada.
Hey they busy rummaging through Melania Trump’s underwear drawer.
“””Austin mass shooter was not on the FBI’s radar”””
Low-level, low-IQ sleeper agent.
An imbecilic contention.
OMG!! Small thinking will get one no where.
Good take and well said.
Along those lines, from the article: “Our ultimate goal in everything we do is to determine the motive,” Alex Doran, the acting agent in charge of the FBI’s San Antonio office, said during a news conference.
I hope this is hyperbole, because if so it says the only thing the FBI is interested in is crimethink, not finding and neutralising those who violate the law i.e. criminals. Often the motives are not accessible to us humans, since we are not omniscent, or are only an afterthought to resolving the crime. Do we care more about getting back Mrs. Guthrie, or about the psychology involved? The latter is only a means to the end.
