(WYOMISSING, Pa.) – Teamsters at the Sunnyside dispensary in Wyomissing, Pa., have voted unanimously to authorize a strike after the company failed to present a contract that fairly compensates its workers. Sunnyside is a subsidiary of Cresco Labs, a publicly traded multi-state operator in the cannabis industry.
“Our members are united and ready to do whatever it takes to secure a strong contract,” said Bill Shappell, President of Teamsters Local 429. “Sunnyside is part of a rapidly growing industry, and these workers are essential to the company’s success. They will not accept wages and working conditions that fall short of the standards they deserve.”
Cannabis Teamsters at Sunnyside are fighting for fair wages and improved hours of work. The strike highlights the growing strength of Teamsters in the cannabis industry and comes after another work stoppage in November, when Pennsylvania Teamsters won the longest-running successful cannabis strike in U.S. history.

No slant there...”

They showed up at 4PM high and then called it off to go home and watch Cartoon Network.
Must be a horrible job transporting and distributing mind destroying garbage to young people.
And horrible jobs require higher pay and benefits.
Meanwhile, at the dispensary:
“Where’s Dave?”
“Dave’s not here, man.”
striking for higher wages
Really? What do they do that makes them so "essential" that the company can't hire someone else who appreciates having a job?
Random drug testing will end that union.
“I was gonna sign a new contract, but I got high...”

I am not anti-union. Nevertheless, you have hit upon a very important point. Many states have laws that make it illegal to permanently replace striking workers.
That unbalances the whole process. So it’s no longer a level playing field.
I’ll take headlines I thought I would never see for 500 Alex…
I see what you did there ;)
And they didn’t make it home because they forgot what they were going to do
As a general statement, wages have been mostly flat since about 1970. Inflation, on the other hand, has been relentless.
A lot of older people still don’t grasp that there are plenty of working people who can barely manage to survive. Can’t afford to buy a home, can’t afford rent, can afford marriage.
The problem isn’t that they buy coffee at Starbucks. The problem is low wages.
Yep, no doubt THE most laid back strike in history.
Very true...
And the people will still go to their corner drug dealer and get it for cheaper.
I never understood how unions sold themselves. In essence, they are saying everyone is an equally good (bad??) employee and should receive the same pay for the same job. If you consider yourself to be a better-than-average worker, you’re being held back by the union. If you’re a less-than-average worker, a union makes sense for you. So how does the union manage to convince people that this is a good model for you as an individual?
