Just days after Senator John Thune said there was no time to debate and vote on the SAVE Act, it was revealed that senators held a dog parade inside the chamber, bringing their pets in for photos and celebration instead of moving forward on the election bill.
Yes, the claim in the post is largely true, though slightly misleading in its wording. On February 25, 2026, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) hosted a bipartisan event called the "Bipawtisan Doggi Gras Pawrade" (a Mardi Gras-themed dog parade) in the atrium of the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. Senators and staff from both parties brought their dogs, which were dressed in costumes and pulled in decorated wagons, for photos, mingling, and celebration. This included notable participants like Sen. Jim Justice (R-WV) and his famous English bulldog, Babydog. The event was intended to build relationships across the aisle and was Tillis's final one before his retirement at the end of 2026.The post connects this to Senate Majority Leader John Thune's (R-SD) recent statement that there wasn't enough time to debate and vote on the SAVE Act (a bill requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration). While the parade did happen shortly after that, it's not accurate to say it was held "inside the chamber"—it took place in a Senate office building, not the actual Senate floor or debating chamber in the U.S. Capitol. The event has drawn criticism for its timing, as it occurred one week into a partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security due to a funding impasse, with some arguing it shows misplaced priorities.
The video in the post you linked shows clips from the parade itself, including senators interacting with the dogs. The images you uploaded appear to be screenshots from a similar or related video of the event, capturing Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) speaking through a megaphone during the festivities.

Republicans think their voters are as simple minded as demonicRATS think their voters are.
You don’t need to have the Senate in session for a dog parade. You do need to have the Senate MAJORITY in session for a vote of any kind.
With this event, Tillis and Thune make their fraternity house more closely resemble Delta Tau Chi (think "Animal House" - John Belushi) than "Skull and Bones" or "Porcellian Club" which they usually emulate.
Thune is turning out to be no better than McConnell — a weak, deep state, lying SOB more concerned with Senate BS rules than with the health of the country.
He’s always been human garbage as evidenced by his election to Majority Leader by his constituents of human garbage. Tillis is a lame duck traitor and he’s running the Senate.
I am surprised Tillis hasn’t already done a Jumping Jim Jeffords and gone over to the Dark Side (the Dims). He’s pathetic.
I read that they were going to attempt another reconciliation bill and are trying to attach it to that bill.
Democrats don’t want the SAVE act.
Republicans don’t want to upset Democrats.
End of story.
Senate Dog Parade / SAVE Act
How could the country possibly have survived without the 17th Amendment, popular vote for federal senators? /super-sarc
Trump47's tsunami of Democratic and Republican supporters, evidenced by his record-breaking win in 2024 elections, desperately need to support him with an all-new, PATRIOT REPUBLICAN dream Congress (less some senators) for his last two years in office.
Exactly! Those useless fucks feign concern that they cannot spare the time to filibuster the SAVE act, but they have tie for a literal dog and pony show without the ponies.

THese morons are not serious people. Only adults should be eligible for Congress
Congress needs a mulligan... I’d prefer a mass extinction event but I’m trying to be nice.
Lawyers should NEVER be allowed in government.
Since the Senate is going to be full of criminals, in any event, who needs the 17th Amendment?
As someone once put it, America’s Legislature is now a House of Representatives and a Super-House who represent their campaign donors.
“a bipartisan event” are the key words. Most politicians...and probably most voters... want the political enemies to be friends on non-political issues.
When Trump invited the Democrats to stand at the SOTU is was on non-political issues that everyone would normally support.
Whoever wins in Nov 2026 will be the ones who appear nice and friendly and not like monsters.

Son of a bitch! No, really! Quite a number, actually
